Isnt it sex that seperates a partner from a friend? Conversation is important but in a relationship but carnal instincts suggest sex is more important, as you generally choose partners that you find sexually attractive. But the sex needs to be Hot and varied!!!

I don't mean to sound trite, however to me it would seem it depends upon the length of time in the relationship. The longer the relationship, the greater the need for something other than the physical relationship. New relationships tend to rely on the physical which is why many of them fail. Once the physical attraction is gone so is the relationship. However, a true relationship does not rely on physical alone, nor does it rely on intellectual entirely, but rather an combination of the two. The real test is the balance between the two without demanding either.

Conversation. Sex is an hour long (or so) thing that occurs fairly regularly. Conversation is many more hours of the day. Imagine having to listen to a person you could not STAND to talk to.
I love sex with my wife but I would take good conversation over good sex in a minute.

i have been with a woman who at that time was the best sex partner i had ever been with.... but outside of that there was nothing.... as you can imagine i kicked her to the curb... actually i moved her back to phoenix..... conversation is much more important in a permanant partner....

Good conversation because when you are old and basically not really capable of having it, then conversation will prevent your from being bored. Not only that, it's more appropriate in front of the kids.
