that sin pollutes our minds, affects our freedom, affects our desires. Please think of how your life is affected by sin, and your need for forgiveness, for this is truly man's greatest need. The wonderful thing is, that we can all be forgiven by God.

but if you seek God and come to Him in repentance,
then he whom the Son sets free, will be free indeed.

agreed, also bear in mind that the worst cancer on this earth is sin and yet it is hardly recognized as such, sexual misconduct is seen today as harmless fun, cheating ,stealing and lying are held up as ways to get on in life, and love has been relegated to just another four-letter word.
the problem with sin is that it is so attractive and addictive, and is the greatest global epidemic today, and is causing more misery than we can bear, this world needs its saviour more than ever but believers need to stop judging the sinner and judge the sin,
we are living in a love starved world because of personal sin and many are heart-broken because of it.
Jesus said that he came to set the prisoner free and to bind the broken-hearted, but what are we doing to show this merciful lord ,to our brothers and sisters?
too many of us are afraid to speak the truth and even when we do, its in a harsh judgemental way, the truth spoken with love and compassion is life changing because this truth is the word of God incarnate.

God cannot forgive sins. The world would be a much better place if only everyone understood that. We are all responsible for our own actions, up to a point, and people who do wrong must be corrected. We should be free to do what we want but within reason, and not if it adversely affects other people.

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Isa 24:5 The earth also is defiled because of the inhabitants of it, for they have transgressed the Laws, changed the ordinance, and broken the everlasting covenant.
6 Because of this, the curse has devoured the earth, and they who dwell therein are desolate; therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

Keep the Laws of Yahweh breaking the Laws is sin. Learn the Laws and be accepted.

Your idea of what is a sin and mine are surely different. But that aside, I can agree with your first 2 sentences.

However, I don't believe in god, so "his" forgiveness is like rags to me. It's more important that you understand what you're doing wrong, why you're doing it, and then stop it. And very important - forgive YOURSELF for being imperfect.
