If the colour is too brassy and yellow, you can buy a silver shampoo that contains ash tones which will neutralise the yellow tones.
Definitely DON'T dye your hair a darker colour, your highlights will be porous and will soak up the dye leaving you with multicoloured hair as it will be darker in the previously highlighted areas.
The other problem with putting a dark dye over highlighted hair is that by highlighting it, you have stripped the natural melanin out of your hair (red tones) if you just slap a dark dye over highlights you will end up with a khaki coloured mess - you would need to put the red tones back into your hair first before dying it darker in order for the colour to take properly.
If in doubt visit your hairdresser who will be able to even out the tones in your hair safely if the silver shampoo doesn't work.

I had the same issues as you. In the end I had to give up. I was getting it professionally done with the best bright dyes that had to be ordered form Japan. The trouble is, if your hair doesn't take, it never will. Some folk just have better hair than others. Pink was the colour I have most trouble with. Washed out in days and the bleach left me with frail limp locks. Sorry there doesn't seem to be any way round it. Just thought i'd share my experience.

It will prob go a funny colour. You can put a highlighting cap on and pull out some hair to make that section darker. This needs to be done evenly to prevent one area becoming darker than another.
Maybe get a friend to do that part. You will need to get a red based brown colour to apply over the hair to be darkened. This is to ensure that you get even and longer lasting coverage.Putting brown straight over blonde can make give the hair a green tinge, the red helps combats this.

If you put a toning on, not dye, it will tone the colour down, you need a warm beige colour, run it through your hair when wet, leave for 1 minute and not 40 mins as stated, rinse off and the harsh bleach would have grabbed the soft tones immediately, toning to a nice colour. Dont be scared of toners, they add instant conditioners and a nice gloss shine, always great to use after bleaching

I could have written this. Exactly the same happened to me! Believe it or not, the bleach will gradually fade, but for a quick fix, just use a hair dye. That is what I did and, again, this will eventually fade, but quicker than the bleach. Contrary to what people have said on here, mine didn't turn green.

Putting a darker color through should be ok as long as its not henna based (if you used bleach to highlight) because it will react. Just bear in mind that the color will wash out quicker

It may very well end up making you look like a clown. Either have a professional do it or leave it alone. The color may tone down after several washings.
