I will pray for you...but seriously....do you think any Christian actually believes that God would work a sign for you, in this cheap hokey way????
IF God wanted you to become a Christian, you'd know...He wouldn't have to conform to your idea of what should be done to convert you. It's going to be alot more dramatic, and miraculous than that..and I do promise you that IT WILL HAPPEN some day...maybe not in this lifetime, but you will become a follower of Christ...( hate to say "or else", but it's true!)
I wouldn't mock your Atheism, you have a right to believe as you want; so why do you, as an Athiest, want to make Christianity sound so cheap and ridiculous?

This is not at all how prayer works. As an unbeliever seeking affirmation of God's existance, only YOU can pray to Him about this. Such a prayer must be with total humility (accepting the possibility you could be wrong and He DOES exist) and with earnest desire to know the truth. Unless you do this, God will NOT show Himself to you.
Believe me, this answer is from experience, not from vain Christian babbling. I was once an unbeliever, too, and lived my life the way I wanted. I had everything imaginable: beauty, money, success, great material possessions ... but I was missing something. After a personal loss that humbled me, I prayed a long prayer asking God to show Himself; I acknowledged that my faith was weak and asked Him to help me. The answer I received was awsome and undeniable. Since He can see what's behind your motivations, you cannot fool Him. So if you REALLY want to know God, He'll see this and answer your prayer.
I will pray that you do this and that God's will is manifest in your life. Peace.

God will not reveal himself in a "sign" just to help you believe, if he did things that way everyone would have no issues with being a christian, it would be too easy. But what he will do is reveal himself to you in a very tangible way when you start to seek him with all of your soul and strength. You need to pray constantly, read his word, get involved with other believers and prove to him that you want to seek him, and then....he will begin to reveal himself to you! Just give it a try, if it does not work, you can always go back to being an atheist. Remember, you must sincerely want to know God and have a relationship with him for this to work. Good luck and God bless!

The tsunami the other year that caused mass indiscriminate destruction on an unimaginable scale. Was it a sign from God, or just further evidence of the non existence of God?

My friend, I will most certainly pray for you. You may not see a bolt of lightening (God is not a teddy bear to be manipulated), but He DOES say that those who seek Him with ALL their hearts, will find Him.
Please keep searching - He sees your heart.
Be blessed. Jesus loves you.
PS: Jesus told the parable about 2 men, one who loved God and the other who did not. The one who did went to heaven and the other to hell. The one who went to hell begged for a messenger to be sent to his family to warn them of what was to come, but he was denied and told that many messengers have been sent and rejected, so if one more were to go and warn them, they would not take any notice.
Those of us who love Jesus and aim to do His will on this site, ARE those messengers my friend.

There are many "fairly obvious" signs all around you already. One obvious sign, however, is the fact that you claim to be atheist, yet your mind is bothered (even if it's just a little bit) by others claims that God exists and wants to have a relationship with you. If you truly believe something, and I mean TRULY believe, you don't question it. As a Christian, I have experienced doubts about my own salvation, but never doubted in the existence of God, nor have I doubted that Jesus Christ is His Son. If you are TRULY an atheist, why are you curious about a God that you don't believe exists?
On another note, I don't know many Christians who would be willing to participate in this experiment of yours. We try not to play games with God.
If you really want to know that God exists and wants you to believe in Him and have a relationship with Him, then you simply have to ask Him yourself, with sincerity and humility. By humility, I just mean that when you go to Him in prayer, you have to realize that you are only human and that you don't know everything.
And remember this: If there is no Almighty God, then your life has absolutely no purpose, no meaning, no effect......... nothing. It means you came from nothing and will return to nothing, and nothing you have ever done can make any difference in the world.
It means that you might as well have never even existed.
God created us to serve Him, and that's not a complicated mystery. It is analogous to an artist who enjoys painting. The painter has every right to paint his picture to his liking. He has the right to blot out the things in his own painting that he isn't pleased with. He has the right to make part of the painting more beautiful than another part.
What he doesn't have to do is explain himself to the painting. Neither is God obligated to explain Himself to His creation. But, being merciful as He is, and understanding the weaknesses of our minds, He offers many evidences of His existence and the truth of His Word.
He very often uses the pattern of the human family to describe our relationship to Him. For example, the(ideal) parent/child relationship shows us how God loves us unconditionally. Most parents love their children no matter what that child has done. Parents discipline their children for the child's own good. When God disciplines us, we know we are His children. We may not understand it fully. Just like a child doesn't understand why his mother would allow a doctor to hurt him by giving him a vaccination, the mother knows that though it may cause a temporary time of pain, it is for the child's own good. But to the child, it is only pain. The child doesn't understand exactly what his mother is doing.
Siblings are another way God reveals himself to us. The love we (should) have for our siblings is like the love we have for other people in the world. We're all different, but we originate from the same Father.
Marriage represents the union we will have with God after this world is finished, with Christ as the Husband and the people as His bride. In a solid, love-based marriage, the couple loves one another through thick and thin and is never unfaithful. Christ loves us in a like manner. Though we are all often unfaithful to Him, He is never unfaithful. He is the perfect Husband. Just as husbands and wives bear one another's burdens and share one anothers hopes, Christ Jesus also bears our burdens and shares our hopes. Not only does he share in our hopes, but if they are pure, He actually brings them to fruition.
Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock.........." You would not even be thinking about God if Jesus were not knocking at the door of your mind. Open the door! He promises that if you do, He will come in and eat (fellowship and teach) with you.
So, ask God in faith, expecting an answer. Ask Him to open your eyes to the evidences of His existence and dominion that are already in front of you. If you ask Him this without malice or sarcasm, He will reveal Himself to you. Peace.

u know what? when i first came to faith i was like this
1) i went to my chinese god and prayed for a sign
2) i went to God and prayed for a sign
did it reali happen in a dramatic way like wat u wanted? NO. it came when i put my trust in Him, and shortly after, miracles really happened. its of no use telling u what happened since non believers are going to rebuke me anyway, but know this, do not test the LORD. trust in Him, and He will provide.
