For the past 17 years i have been writing exams once in every 6 months. Is it really required?Are'nt there other ways to measure once knowledge and capability?

Apparently so; you need to take more! you should say, "are exams really necessary to measure knowledge." Just kidding. It is just a process of life. Yes there are other ways to measure knowledge, but test are the general consensus on the approved and best way to do so.

As for me, exams doesn't measure once knowledge. Because there are many factors that sometimes affect students performance in exams. Getting low score or grades in exam doesn't mean your not intelligent because there are many factors that affects student's performances in exam such as not feeling well when the exam was given, unprepared, or emergency reasons where u can't concentrate on the exam. Exams are just testing how much you know about the lesson.

Exams only test you ability to perform in exams.

They do not measure a persons' true ability or skill.

Only through real work and by looking at the results of someone's work can one see a person's true ability.

I have also felt the same.. But there can be some other way in which the persons knowledge can be tested a practical way or so... might be easy to go with
