+ Pope +

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:17-19)

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.

The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.

+ Pope Benedict XVI +

The Pope is not and never has been a Nazi. He unfortunately was born and grew up in a country ruled by the Nazi party.

Do you think that every draftee in the Nazi German Army was a Nazi? If you do then you are very naive.

Just hope and pray that you do not have to make a decision to be live, fight, and possibly die for a government in which you do not believe or be executed.

You and I are very lucky live in a very different world that the Pope did in 1930s and 1940s Germany. I suggest you do not be so quick to judge others.

+ With love in Christ.

He is our Physical leader. Here are two scriptural reasons for a leader:
"Thou art Peter and on this rock wilt I build my Church..."
And
"Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist have been established by God. Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgement upon themselves." Romans 13:1-2

Yes Benedict once belonged to the Hitler Youth. It is past history for reasons already spoken of. Was not Paul once an enemy of the Church? God forgives and He understands too bad mankind seems unable.

The current pope is Benedict XVI (born Joseph Alois Ratzinger), who was elected at the age of 78 on 19 April 2005. He succeeds the late John Paul II, who was elected at the age of 58 in 1978.

To me, as a Christian, he is someone his followers have put on the same level as Jesus, and this has to be wrong. The bible say that Jesus is the way, the light and only through Him can you come to God, not through the Pope or even Mary. But as long as the Pope sees himself as just the leader of the Catholics, right or wrong, then all is well, we stand or fall by our own faith.

Big C or little c? There is a difference. The Roman Catholics recognize the pope as God's mouthpiece, so to speak, and believe that when he speaks for God he is infallable, as God is. There are other catholic (little c) churches who practice mass pretty much identical to the Romans' mass, but do not believe any man, even the pope, is infallable.

Read your Bible. The Pope is the man to whom Jesus Christ said, "I give unto you the Keys to my Kingdom". He is the chief shepherd of the universal Christian Church, appointed by God Himself. He is the Rock upon whom the Church of God is built. He is the Vicar of Jesus Christ on Earth. He is the one to whom Christ promised "whatsoever you bind upon Earth is bound in heaven". He is the authority without which unity is not possible, and therefore without whom truth is not possible. He is the principle reason for 2,000 years of doctrinal truth, unity of belief and unity of worship in Christ's Church, compared with 500 years of disintegration into conflicting denominations among manmade churches. He is the Servant of the servants of God.
