Strictly speaking, you should get started on them right after you get back from your honeymoon. Give or take a week for you to finish writing them and 10-15 days to mail all the notes and for the recipients to receive them. So, about a month or month and a half after your wedding would be perfect.

If you can't send out the thank-you notes within 3 months of the wedding, include an apology in your note when you get around to writing one (which you must, even if it is months/years later).

Do you mean how long after the wedding? Some people may tell you that you have one year, but that is not true - your thank-you notes should be received no later than one month after the wedding, but.....

Better late than not at all!!!

The "proper" length of time is 2 weeks after the event.......any event......not just a wedding. And within 3 days after being a guest in someone's home.

When wedding gifts continue to arrive, as they often do, after the 2 week period, the "thank you" should be sent immediately.

I've seen several time theories from several Miss Manner's articles, but they all ended by saying the same thing. As soon as possible after the honeymoon.Technically, a year is not too late, and I have seen 3 months as the limit.
One thing, if you got checks as gifts, cash them as soon as possible, and write thanks for them, first. People want to balance their checkbooks, and do no like to carry the balance over for months and months. Same thing for cash. People want to know if you got it. And do the out of town packages soon, too. They want to know if the US mail got it to you, and want to get the post office to replace it if you did not get it. I'm sure there is a time limit for this.
Hope this helps.

Make them short and sweet because you'll have at least 100 to send out, and writing a one page letter for each person will take you forever! Just write from your heart and make it right to the point! Have fun with it. =)

After you return from your honeymoon, you should get them in the mail within 2-3 weeks.

Dumpling didn't get the question at all. No one expects to get a thank you right away (honeymoon and all), it's better late then never.
