Generally speaking, an Insurance Adjuster will receive new claims, review coverage information, make contact with the parties involved (including the insured), investigate the loss, make a decision on accepting the loss or denying it, paying the benefits that are due or owed, defending the benefits that are not, documenting all that they have done, filing the appropriate forms within the company and with the appropriate regulatory body, working with experts on the handling of the claim and finally closing the file.

And lastly, what most people forget, use common sense!
