I think you misunderstand the debate of creationism.....
Now, I can only speak for Catholics as I am one and not other Christian denominations, but the argument that Catholics have is not if we are the only ones in the universe, that we evolved from monkeys, etc.... It is the fact that Catholics refuse to believe that we (humans, the universe, etc) just happened. Catholics argue that the "instructions" for the universe to happen as well as the "ingredients" were put there by God. The rest happened because he designed it.
God also gave us intelligence so that we could overcome our obstacles and also explore wild new worlds, be it discovering the tiniest remote island in the Pacific or another planet we can live on. I also have no doubt that there is other life out there.
God then also gave us free will so that we may choose to either be explorers or hamburger flippers.
Either way, one cannot argue that the night sky and all it's possibilities are not fascinating.
On a side note, I am positive that if we spent half of our efforts and money that we do on wars and we redirected it to scientific advancements, we would have already been in that next galaxy you speak of.
And on another side note.... Do you know that we know more about space than we do about our own ocean?
Have a great day!

No. But I could ask the same thing about why did God make Paducah, Kentucky. Personally, it means nothing to me...nor do I have plans to go there.
The stars exist for the same reason as that (I assume) fine city.
I find the universe fascinating and mysterious (and big.) There's a purpose for those stars. Our star, the Sun, warms our planet and gives us light...but are we sure that this is its only purpose? All stars don't have planets. This doesn't mean that they're not there...or serve no other purpose.
I think it's completely reasonable to assume that there is other life and civilizations elsewhere in the universe. But whether or not there is has no bearing on God's plan for us.

Yes, there really are hundreds of billions of other galaxies, besides the Milky Way. Unfortunately, they are hundreds of millions of light-years away. If humanity is ever to populate even the nearest suitable worlds within our own galaxy, we'll first need to eliminate the counterproductive religions which systematically perpetuate ancient ignorance and undermine intellectual and social progress.

If you're asking if we think there is life out there in the stars, then that answer will vary among every person on this board. As for me, I do think there is more out there then just us, but that doesn't mean that they are so technologically advanced that they'd visit.
The universe was created with something more then just human understanding in mind. Yes, the stars and planets and suns are pretty. We have yet to explore every facet of it, and until we do, sit back and enjoy the view.

The angels sure marveled when the universe was created.
Anyway, you might look at creation being God's job. The Bible calls us his workmanship. Hope that helps.
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Well to put it into perspective, in revelations it talks about a powerful beast that will roam the earth, so powerful that with one swish of his tail it will knock stars out of the sky and they will lay scattered on the earth. Apparantly they are like little torch globes 'stuck' to the sky's surface.

Well, there is the possibility that humans are not the only race God created. Ellen White (Seventh-Day Adventist church) conjectured that God made life on other planets, but that humans were the only ones who messed up and sinned. Interesting idea...

Genesis 1:14 - "To serve as signs to mark the seasons, days, and years for life on Earth."
Genesis 1:18 - "To "govern" the day and the night, to provide consistent markers giving order to creation."
Psalm 19:6 - "To declare the eternal glory of God."
It clearly was NOT created in vein.

That's God our creator decide to make all this things to enjoy his eye also...If you'll stuck with wondering on everything what was made by God...you may miss the most important things...Don't waist so much time on thinking why this or that and start thinking How I can get my self to heaven and at least those I love...

In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd
