i do prefer the long friendship short engagement, i believe that a good relationship start with having a long term relationship as a friend. you will know him better if you started as friend. know his background, the dos and dont, his favorite and his attitude. and most important is, His family knows you best and you really know if its really LOVE that you feel in your heart, its authentecity matters.

long friendship short engagement is a more promising relationship because after the long friendship once you're serious getting married soon after tells me that you can't wait to be with that person.
A short friendship and long engagement tells me that perhaps they jumped into the relationship for pure surface reasons and a long engagement tells me that there might be some doubt as to whether or not to get married.
