I doubt there's much in it. There are two processes at work in a tumble dryer to accelerate evaporation. (1) Addition of heat energy to convert liquid water to water vapour. (2) Removal of moist air from the machine. My suspicion is that longer time on lower heat is more efficient because the removal of air is more effective. The best way to save money (and the environment) is to use the tumble dryer until the clothes are almost dry and then use a clothes horse - the heat left in the clothes will be enough to finish the drying process without wasting electricity..

The difference which makes it more energy consumptive, when it is running for the longer time, is the fact that the drive motor for the drum is running for a longer time.

So the shorter the time the drive motor is running the less energy consumptive it is.

That is one consideration.

Otherwise it is rather difficult to determine if there are savings to be made with respect to the drier being on 'high' or 'low'.

I'd say cooler for longer would be more efficient - even allowing for the extra time the motor is running.

This is because the heating part is only part of the story. Moving cold air will dry clothes eventually, warm air has the capacity to hold more water vapour. It also helps to warm the water in the clothes that has been cooled through latent heat of vapourisation.

Of course a washing line is best.

changing from low to intense in easy terms adjustments the blower fan velocity. The fan would not devour plenty capability. merely set the fan to a putting -- no count if intense or low -- that provide you with the main effective and delicate cooling. it quite is the compressor that eats up most of the capability in an a/c equipment. to maintain capability, set the thermostat to a dazzling temperature. This motives the compressor to run much less and thereby saves you capability interior the long-term.

Don't use a tumble dryer, it's not very good for the environment or your clothes.

DEPENDS ON WHAT AND HOW MUCH YOU PUT IN? BUT NEWTON WILL EXPLAIN IT BETTER THAN MYSELF, YOU'VE ONLY GOT TO WAKE HIM UP, A DRINK DOWN THE LOCAL WITH EINSTEIN WOULD OPEN THE DEBATE UP TOO!
