No. Don't give him any human medications unless you're specifically advised to by your vet. Different species have different ways of metabolising drugs, and you can potentially cause a lot of harm by either overdosing them or giving something they should never have been given in the first place.

You need to take your cat to the vet and have him properly examined- e.g. one of the most common causes of infection in animals' paws is a foreign body such as a grass seed- that infection isn't going to go away unless the cause is removed. The vet can then put him on an antibiotic suitable for his problem and in suitable amounts.

No

You can use amoxicillan in cats but human preparations may cause problems with upset stomachs and worse. The cat dose of amoxicillin is obviously a lot smaller than the human dose and most likely you will struggle to split the tablets - if you have syrup usually these cause foaming from the mouth.

You need to visit your vet - no offense but your not qualified to medicate your own animal with a prescription medication and the wrong treatment can cause a worsening of the situation or even further illness, suffering or death.

Would you treat yourself with your cats medication?

No never. You shouldn't hold onto any prescribed drugs at all. They can become dangerous if they have expired especially tetracycline products. If you get a prescription you should atke the whole thing not just enough until you feel better. You are helping bacteria to become immune to antibiotics. When you feel better (2 or 3 days) and stop taking the drugs, there are still bacteria in your body that are fighting the antibiotics. They will mutate and survive. It is not a good thing.

Hi! I know that many cat owners will not agree with me; but I have given my cat (he is now 8) children's and adult's amoxyxillin from time to time when he had abscessed infections. How do I know that it is safe to do this? Well, the first 2 times I went to my vet becuase my cat had had a ight and had an abscessed leg or paw, the vet prescribed children's amoxicillin given orally with med dropper. This was before he was fixed. After he was fixed, he once stepped on a sharp glass and his paw got infected. I first washed it clean with hydrogen peroxide. Next day, pus was appearing. I had no children's amoxycillin handy, but I had some amoxycillin tabs for adults (500mg.) I quartered one tab to give me roughly 125mg per tab. Then I HALVED that quarter (about 62.5mg), crushed it and mixed it with his food. I gave 62.5mg (a really small amount) of this amoxil mixed in fd 3X a day for 5 days. Paw healed, cat was fine. But that's just me. I would NEVER have done it if I knew that human-grade amoxycillin was anywhere harmful to cats. But since I knew it was nt (if given in small doses), I went ahead a "self-medicated" my little baby.
BUT you do not need to take my example. You can always take your kitty to the vet.
But why not just CLEAN his paw carefully and WAIT to see if infection sets in? You may not need to give him any antibiotics.

You should always consult your vet before giving your animal any human medication. Some medications are okay for animals but you still have to talk to a vet to get a recommended dosage. You dont want to give too much.

Make sure he isnt licking on it...and I would still take him to the vet just in case the infection speads to the blood steam and so forth.

I would not give him any medications meant for humans. However, what I would do, is take hydrogen peroxide and pour it in the infection on his paw. Do this several times a day for several days. This should clear the infection. If you cannot pour the peroxide into the infection (maybe it's a closed wound) then I would take kitty to the vet and have him give you the antibiotics you will need for your baby.

You should never give an animal medicine intended for human use unless otherwise instructed to do so by the vet.

Just take your cat to the vet and see about getting him some antibiotics. They're not expensive.....we just had to get a supplementory antibiotic for our new dog and it was only $8.50.

Yes, you can. If you have some amoxicillan for humans it is the same as a vet would give you. I have used it with sucess a lot of times!

I would have the cat checked by a vet first, human antibiotics are not for pets.
