I heard an advertisement on the radio a couple of hours ago in which they referred to the car they were trying to sell as "sexy". This is something they've done for a long time, and frankly, I don't understand it. How can 2,000 pounds of steel, plastic and glass be sexy? If you ask me, it's ridiculous! Any reactions to this?

working for 10 years in advertisement you have to know this. Sex sells everything. It's sad but true. What is more sad than this is that many people still believe that a new car or a new product can get them dates. pathetic!!

It all comes down to the person buying the car is supposed to think they will look "sexy" when driving it. What they are hoping people will get out of the commercial is that even the ugliest person will look good driving that car. Sad thing is A LOT of people buy into that kind of advertising.

It sounds like lame advertising - you're right, a car cannot be sexy, although in days gone by cars did have a certain appeal; these days they are all so similar and generic - if you think about Cadillacs, original Minis, MGs, Oldsmobiles, Ferraris and countless others, there was some real variety.

It's a visual type of stimulation. Have you ever taken a second or third look at a car that caught your eye? What about all of the cars on the road that you know are there but just don't pay that much attention to. Then something comes along and grabs your attention, and you think to yourself, "hey, sharp car", or whatever phrase comes to mind.

That's what they mean by "sexy".

It's advertising by association - Aspiriation to be wha your are associated with. If a Car is 'sexy', then you are autmoatically sexy when you drive such a vehcle. Loads of advertisers do it - models in lingerie, if you gave a see-thru bre to rosie o' donnel, I think we'd puke, but hey, give it to Heidi Klum, and rejoice.

If you can associate something as good, the owner is associated with the description.

some people refer to their cars or vehicle as their girlfriend or even wife. when they choose a vehicle they make sure that its the best they can get. to brag and show off to there friends and family even to their neighbors too., they care for it, washed it with expensive and special stuffs to make it look beautiful and sexy, dress and love it so dearly. some people find their cars the sexiest piece of steel they've ever had in their wholelife. satisfied?

Just saying it's sexy isn't enough, the ad campaign still needs to be well designed for it to work. The fact that sex sells isn't pathetic, it's just human nature. We all wouldn't be here without sex.

Propaganda...they want people to have the idea that having a beatiful car, is like having a beautiful wife....like scarlett johanson! aint she pretty? anyways yea, they want to compare the two and place in your "mental hard-drive" that a "sexy" car is like a sexy woman/man.

Some people hold a personal relationship with their cars....They even give them names. This ad is aiming for those kinds of people.
