I believe praying is talking to God and meditation is listening to Him.

Meditation allows a person to open up to their spiritual center and reach out to all that is, the infinite wisdom and universal consciousness that we all can tap into. Meditation allows one to be still so one is able to understand the infinite possibilities that are out there.

Without being centered and grounded, it is hard in every day life to be able to tap into the Infinite. There is too much noise, thought, distraction that keeps people from being able to hear the still small voice of the Infinite. Meditation and/or prayer helps people to tap into the Infinite within and then go without to find out all that is.

If one continually meditates and not only is just focusing the mind and aware of mental activity, but able to quiet that activity then in the silence and peace one is able to discover their inner Self and this connects one with the Infinite (because the Self is equal to the Infinite).
