well it might be because that like lions they have their own territory and they maybe not like each other because the old cat probaly doesn't know the new 1 so they might go along with each other after a couple of weeks...

It's a defense mechanism. Lots of animals use sound to protect themselves. It may be used to imitate the sound of a snake, which a great number of predators would hastily back away from! Mimic is another defense often seen in the animal kingdom - snakes themselves, for instance, actually imitate other snakes. Non-venemous snakes rattle their tails in dry leaves to sound like a rattlesnake. So cats may do something very similar.

They hiss when they are frightened or angry. It is a warning mechanism for them. He is letting the kitten know that if it doesn't back off he will strike, or if he's like my cat just move and pout.

Cats hiss to:
(1) warn off other individuals away from them (cats, dogs humans, etc.)
(2) express agitation or anger - cats will hiss when they smell an interloper in their territory; they will hiss when they are in pain and you try to touch them

Simply, you can interpet a typical cat's hiss as saying either "I don't like you, so buzz off" OR "I don't like this situation and I am angry!"

Cats his basically to tell you or a predator to back off. They will hiss at people they do not like. They will also hiss if you are invading their space when they do not want it invaded. Your cat however should not hiss at you unless you are lets say "bugging the crap out of him/her."

Cats hiss to scare anyone away from their domain, just as a snake hisses.

It is a simple defense mechanism. It acts to scare away some unfriendly critters the cat meets.
