You can get a blood test done for herpes. There are 2 types of herpes HSV-1, which is caused by the coldsore virus (that you find around your mouth), which can be spread to the genital region by oral sex. HSV-2 is the genital version, and is usually more severe. When getting a blood test, it is worth checking which strain they are testing for, as many tests only test for one strain.

It might be worth both yourself and the person who you want to father your child, going to a GUM clinic to ensure neither of you have any infections, before you start trying for a baby.

Herpes would be a problem if you had an outbreak at the time of delivery...this would probably nessecitate you having a caesarian. Otherwise, there is less reason to worry about it.

There are tests for herpes and I would call your family primary care Dr or OBGYN and review your sexual activity with him/her. They would do cultures. There are two types of herpes - Type 1 & Type 2. If you do have herpes you can still get pregnant but have to go through a C-section so the baby will not pass through the birth canal.

Yes there is a blood test but I have heard it can be really inaccurate.

Having a physical exam during an outbreak and testing the fluid from the sores is the best way to be diagnosed with herpes. A pap smear can also be given.

There is a blood test but it can only be given if you actually have symptoms.. That is it will detect whether or not you have Herpes 1 (oral herpes) or Herpes II (genital herpes!

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.
