I know what to look for, I clicked every time I saw a potential Hazard and when the situation changed AS INSTRUCTED BY THE DVD!

For your information it was a driving instructor that gave the advice on clicking every 3-4 seconds so get off your high horses and stop believing that the DVLA's sytem of testing is perfect cos it obviously isn't!

I took my car test before Hazard Perception but had to endure it for my pcv test a year ago. The examiner at the bus company told me never to click repeatedly as if you continue to do this the DSA system believes you are just trying to cheat and will in most cases score 0 for the hazard. I was told to click once as I see the hazard developing and then click once again a second later as sometimes you can click too soon and miss the scoring zone. This way you should get either a 5 or 4 each time. Good Luck

Firstly , leave your mobile at home , you won't need it. Hazard Perception is important , not only to the driver , but to other road users and pedestrains. When you are in a driving situation , you have to focus , not only near objects but distant objects both at the same time. Adjust your driving to a 'defensive position' 2 / 3 vehicle lengths behind the vehicle in front. This will help you with the best possible view and escape any probably trouble.. Scan the horizon left and right. Scan your mirrors. Indication is of great impotrance and in plenty of time. Try to be calm as you can. The examiner will not do anything to alarm you , with sudden requests. If you have a bike , go out and practice your perception. See if you could spot hazards from 150 yards away. A bike is slower than a car , so you will have plenty of time to see things. Many years happy motoring

the point of taking the test is to see if you can safely judge if you are apporaching a hazardous situation. What is the point of clicking every 3-4 seconds randomly simply to pass a test? That os useless and dangerous advice, clearly it doesnt work and I am very glad it doesn't as the roads would hardly be safe.

If you don't understand then speak to your instructor. Or get the software that allows you to practice on a PC same as when you take the test.
You need to click when you see a developing hazard such as a cyclist or roadworks or a bus that may have people emerging from in front or behind it if you are planning to overtake etc.

Take some time to find out why you are clicking and learn to be a safe driver.

I watched the DVD you got with your booking confirmation but as you can't practice its very difficualt to know when to press. I definately spotted all the hazards but think I was clicking too soon or too late and it says you get disqualified for that question if you click too much so I was worried about doing that. Therefore I failed first time, on hazard perception part.

Get yourself down to WH Smith or similar and you can buy a Hazard Perception DVD which is interactive so you can actually oractice taking example questions by pressing on your remote as you would with the mouse during the test.

The first few times I was clicking at the wrong time but it certainly helps you to know at what stage you should click after spotting the harzard. Hope this helps, good luck!

The key objective of this section is to examine 'how quickly can you spot a hazard and react to it'. In real life situations is would mean regular road incidents such as a car coming from a side street, a parked vehicle on the road, a cyclist ahead, etc.

You are expected to use your judgement in spotting such 'potential' hazards which can cause an accident and react by pressing the brakes of your vehicle.

In this test, as the video plays, keep your eyes open to spot such potential hazards. Each time you see such an event click the mouse. The faster you react the more points you get.

Hope this helps. All the best !!

did you get a dvd to tell you how to do it when you booked your test? basically if you see a hazard then click the mouse. This would be anything that would make you change the way you drive (ie speed, position in road). These hazards could be a pedestrian crossing the road, a car suddenly pulling out, a cyclist, a car emerging from junction etc. have a look at this site http://www.driving-test-success.com/hazard/hazard_perception_main.html

Regular clicking will almost certainly fail you because the computer is trying to match your responses to the video being shown.
What you are looking for is any person, vehicle or thing that may, olr could, cause a hazard i.e a cyclist about to overtake a parked car, or a dog running freely on the pavement ( could suddenly turn and cross your path).

You can actually carry out a mock exam online which will help you to recognise the hazards as they occur.

DON'T CLICK EVERY 3-4 SECONDS!!!
The computer is smart enough to read this as regular clicking and therefore cheating! You will get 0 marks for that video.

The way I did it was to click whenever you see something that may get in your way or pop out on you (Eg kids walking along the street, a car in a side road, even parked ones etc). Then, click only when you would actually react, by braking etc in your car (Like when the kid or a ball jumps out in front of you etc. You'll pass this way.

The best tip on how to pass the hazard perception test is........

know exactly what you are supposed to do with the computer and know exactly what a hazard is.......

you must not try and cheat these tests eg just click every 3-4 seconds! (how stupid is that?!)

Sorry but you learn how to pass the test not how to drive.after you pass your test that's when the learning starts. But good luck on your next try.One thing that did help is ask your instructor to let you drive doing a running commentary by you as you drive, comment on every road sign and hazard you see on your lesson.

And judging by your instructors comments I would change instructors. Experience of driving emergency vehicles35yrs.
