Hitting cats will never help them to learn what is right & wrong, it just makes them scared of you.

If it's indoor plants I would rub citronella oil onto the pots & around the rim so they won't want to go near it. If it's outside, then good luck & I'd bet everyone's cats poop there.

This may sound extreme, but get rid of your plants. Many are poisonous and can be of extreme danger for your cats. If this is not your first choice remedy, I would try to make sure they stay in separate areas of the house - is that possible?

Better safe than sorry!

Put the plants you don't want them getting into somewhere that's hard for them to get to, and then get another plant like catnip or wheat grass and put it on the floor where they can get it easily. Let them have their own plant, and they'll be a lot less interested in the ones you don't want them to have.
