I am getting married this coming July, and it will cost only $5,000 for 125 people. That includes the reception and wedding, but not my dress. Yes...I got the hook up! But I can only save about $2,500 by that time. I need help getting the other half! I am a full-time student, wife, mom, and we both have jobs. Expenses hinder us from saving more. We have no help from anyone else... Thanks!

I am not trying to show off. We are just the first kids and grandkids to get married...that's a lot of pressure. We are college students. And he just lost his mom...so the family is looking forward to coming together after this tragedy. A lot of pressure...We were just going to go on a cruise and get married on it--kill two birds with one stone: honeymoon and wedding! All for $1800. But the family...
The broke family...

We are waiting for an answer to see if we can have everything at our church for free and just pay for the decorations, etc with the money we can save. Me and my friend can also cook the food ourselves. Believe me...we are trying to cut corners! I just bought patterns to make my own dress!

We both come from very large, closeknit families! His mom: 10 siblings. His dad: 9 siblings. My mom: 6 siblings. My dad: 8 siblings. So between spouses and adult cousins...it's hard to cut the list down... Our friends understand. Our closest friends: they are the best man and matron of honor.

We are not going on a cruise, we wanted to combine our wedding (eloping) and the honeymoon because then we would only have to pay 1800 for the cruise.

$5000 is quite low. But that is from quite a few favors. My mom is a coordinator and has plenty decorations... My brother is an awesome photographer. My friends from college have equipment and skill for the music. My aunt does flowers and is donating...

$5000 is just for the site fee, food, and chairs, etc for the wedding and reception. The wedding is for 125 people but the reception is only for 50 people. That excludes old people, children, etc, that doesn't HAVE to be there. We have gotten as many donations and gifts as possible. Rings included. They were gifts from my sister...

$5000 is what is left to pay after all we have paid for or had donated.

I'd recommend a line of credit. Generally lines of credit are lower interest rates than regular loans. You also only have to pay interest on what you use. Try to only get the line of credit for the $5000. If you have more...you will use it. I just got married myself and so many things are out there that you dont realize...and since it is your ONE day, you will want them all unless you dont have the money. (oh...and dont count on the money you get at the wedding paying for it...bills add up)

Edit: I just what you said about your aunts and uncles. I had the same problem, We ended up eliminating out aunts and uncles and just having brothers and sisters and children along with my grandparents. We simply could not afford all the aunts and uncles and cousins and we were not willing to pick and choose which could come and not. I wont lie, it caused some tension. But, we stuck to our guns and basically told them we are sorry, but I dont love you less or more than another aunt and I cant invite you all. If they truely love you and want you to have a happy life, they will understand. We are having a family gathering next year instead so everyone will see each other.

Btw....$5000 for 125 people is quite low. I think you have underestimated a lot of things. With decorations off ebay, wedding at a family member's backyard, suits, invitations I made myself (mailing costs too), hair, flowers etc, my own wedding came to over $4000 and that did NOT include food as that was a gift to us. Little things REALLY add up and you dont realize it until you go to pay for it all. Your wedding pictures alone will cost from $1500-2000 unless you get a friend to do it, and that can really strain a friendship. We thought our wedding would cost about $2000 with all our cuts. (rings add in there too, even when you get small bands)

Don't start a marriage in debt. The number one cause of divorce is money problems.

That's a LOT of money to pay for one day considering how long you'll be paying for it afterwards.

What about a quiet ceremony in a church with just immediate family?

Why do you need all the hoopla? Are you trying to show off?

$5000 does sound like a great deal for 125 people, but you clearly can't afford even that. Either put off the wedding until you can save up the money or make other plans.

If you are having trouble saving this up it concerns me that there might be financial problems later from taking out loans to pay for this now. How about cutting more expenses on the wedding so you can be comfortable afterwards? Maybe reduce your guest list to just your best friends and immediate family for a more intimate affair?

My cousin went to a, I guess you would call it a convention, were there was a lot of different companys selling all kinds of stuff for weddings and most of them had raffles were you could win things like the cake or a huge discount off the floral arangments etc.etc. She got some really good deals. Best wishes and remember to enjoy the moment.

Then don't have it for $5000.

Do NOT start your new life in debt! If you can't afford a $5K wedding, then don't have a $5K wedding. It's just plain and simple.

I was a full-time student, full-time mom, full-time employee, and wedding planner (for myself!). Trust me, I know where you're coming from.

Just do NOT open a loan for this!

There are loans that you can get from the bank, "personal loans," and you can use them for anything. If you have good credit and not a lot of debt, that would be the way I would recommend to go.

Try to get a personal loan from the bank.

By the way, do you really need the cruise?

DO NOT TAKE OUT A LOAN FOR A ONE DAY PARTY.

Seriously, it's not worth it. It's just a party.
