I think that is how many of the religious leaders founded their religion. And to ensure that no body replicated their methods, they wanted their followers to believe that he was the last of the prophets and whoever comes after him should be killed as a non-believer. Just scenes should be ignored or at best enjoyed as providing comic relief.

I would buy him a copy of "combatting cult mind control" by Steven Hassan and get him to read it. I would also insist that the world does not need another jonestown! I would assume him to have some psychological problems but would do all I could to free him from his wild thoughts.

I am a strong believer in lord Ganesha
I give him benefit of doubt
i will never allow any body to force me to follow his or her cult
I still will go and see what is the whole thing about
I will also let him know that one need not follow particular cult to be a be liver

God does not insist on pain because it does not matter. So this neighbour's insistence on the pain of death leads me to the conclusion that he is disturbed.

I would take him as a flawed person just as anyone else is instead of judging him and considering him a lunatic.

I don't know whom are you talking of.
Any one who claims to be a prophet deserves to be admitted in a lunatic asylum.
Such people can cause a lot of unimaginable damage to the society.
Afsal Guru, Charles Shobharaj and Godse may be forgiven, but not these people.

some people live in an imaginary world always and they keep coming out with this kind of grandiose thoughts - that he is somebody great or chosen by god. as long as the person is harmless, we can ignore it. if he means harm, he may be having delusions (false beliefs) and needs to be checked up by a psychiatrist.

I will think that he is not so sane. You should tell him that if he is a prophet he need not come to you, his message will automatically come to you and compel you to join him, till that happens lets not press the matter.

I would not be justified to judge anyone. However, I would not follow a cult.

Fringe nothing. I would consider him to be quite insane, and that would be considered an outright threat. Time to call the cops.
