As long as it is used properly, and it does not get torn, it prevents both MALE and FEMALE partner from each others STDs.

The only way to PREVENT STD's is not to have sex at all, but since you are, the condom lessens the RISK of getting a STD or unwanted pregnancy for both partners. You may want to re-evaluate who and how many you are sleeping with if you are that concerned.

Condom has proven to protect both the man and the woman if it is used correctly. Educate yourself about your sexual health as well as the different kinds of protection available.
