JUst wondering. We all know why most choose to be morally correct, because of their faith or their fear of eternal damnation, but how do atheists practice morally correct conduct when they dont have a faith or a god. Is this what bothers most orthodox religions when it pertains to atheists who can still be god like?
Just wondering no offense to anyone, but I wondered?

rosbif I was not suggesting anything. Had you have read my question entirely you would have seen I was speaking from a christians perspective not my own. I did not mean to be offensive it was a genuine question for not only atheists, but for christians who judge atheists. I wish you well.

I was discussing this with my husband this morning. I believe an atheist has a brutally honest streak that is indicative of a basically moral person. In this society most of us are exposed to religion. The atheist USUALLY has thought long and hard about how they CAN'T believe and are honest enough to say so. There are plenty of unbelievers in the churches who are not so honest.

Perhaps this extends to their other character traits making them decent sorts.

That's the materialists who do this. They suppose threatened through your notion procedure. To them, it needs to be nugatory nonsense, in any other case they're utterly incorrect approximately existence, the Universe, and the whole thing. And they cannot have that! :) There are a few Atheists who do not believe that means despite the fact that. Technically, I am an Atheist. But I have a Pagan touch or 2 and I attempt to reply their questions in all seriousness, and to the pleasant of my capability. So Atheist frequently is not the pleasant phrase to make use of. My knowledge is that a few Pagans are truthfully Atheistic, in comparison to Christians, besides. So rather, it is the materialistic notion procedure that you are going up in opposition to right here. Not the Atheistic one, even though in a few minds they're so intently attached, they've end up the identical factor. lol. I would not use the phrase 'assault' both, there is not any must victimize your self or some other pagans on this quandary. Just comprehend that those materialists you talk of include being poor on the grounds that they might have got to admit they have been incorrect in any other case, and no person likes to try this :)

First off, an atheist has FAITH in their BELIEF in no God. That is a logical fact. Nobody knows anything with certainty and as a result, any conclusion reached by an individual is an act of faith. Next, atheists can never be righteous because their actions are 100% self-serving and not motivated by love but rather pragmatism. The only reason an atheist doesnt rape or murder anyone they please is because there are external punishments in this life for such actions (i.e. jail or revenge by another party). Let's not worship the self-indulgent atheist... well, we all praise and have faith in something now don't we? For some it's a perfectly loving God, for others it's dust (the God of science). They have faith that dust caused creation because it doesnt govern them... sounds like a pretty good crutch to me.

knowing right from wrong definitely doesn't come from religion, it comes from upbringing. If ones parents were not great leaders in morality, usually children follow suit and vice versa. religion cannot take credit for ones morality or lack thereof. religion is just another group of people who have like minds. I was a christian for many years and realized that I was not happy with all of the contradictions. now that I don't have all of the confusion I feel good about the decisions I make, with my own sense of reason. It's very liberating for me actually.

Christian believe their morality is based on God's decree, thus atheists has no basis of morality despite their appearance to be doing moral acts.

But many individuals, aside from Christians and not only atheist, do moral acts.

That just prove (probably) that there is no need for god for an individual to be moral.

Thus, probably, the Christian belief on moral is farce.

I dont think most people behave because of fear of hell but rather fear of dad. Our parents teach us to behave and they are the ones who infuence our reactions to everyday moral values. So if a person is raised by decent moral people who have or do not have religious tendencies then they will behave in a correct manner. Religion complicates the simplicity of life lived well and with restraint because it is the way you are not the fear of hell damnation.

It's pretty simple. It takes no real moral qualities whatsoever to announce to the world that you're "christian." It's what everybody expects of you, encourages in you, and rewards you for, and you learn that lesson early in life. Hence religion is at least always a convenient haven for hypocrites of every kind, from common confidence hustlers to child molesters.

If you've decided you don't share the popular belief in god, though, it takes true courage of your convictions to stand up and say so. You'll be automatically mistrusted, suspected, demonized, all for differing on what is avowedly a matter of personal opinion. It requires a positive galaxy of moral virtues for a person to "admit" (guilty word) that he's an atheist in this society of sentimentalists.

The atheist, unlike the christian, doesn't consider himself to be beholden to some supernatural power who will reward or punish him according to the degree to which his actions correspond with the arbitrary edicts set down in some millenia-old text. Instead, his morality is based on principles of inherent common sense and decency. He may in fact share many points of morality with his christian counterpart, but he doesn't feel the need to refer them to some fantastic dogma that would insult the native intelligence of a nonpartisan 8 year old.

The question seems to be based on the idea that belief in God is linked with morality-it isn't. My sense of morality is the product of belonging to a hard working, loving family who imbued me with honest values-God never has or will even enter the equation.

If an atheist doesn't believe in a higher power like a god, then they may view humans as the highest power. So why not show respect to other humans?

Or it may be that they were taught to respect other people at an early age, and so they continue to follow that teaching.

Hmmm will wonders never cease? LOL We are all just people, religions are irrelovent when it comes to many simple truths of peacefull coexistance with eachother. We all need love, we all know it is bad to hurt eachother physically or emotionally. Those that deviate from those simple human constants, have a problem of some kind and need help.
