I think everyone at some time experiences this problem. If it is ongoing and is bothering you, then I would try to find the source. Usually some kind of stimulant is involved, example to much caffiene. If it continues I would seek the evaluation by a physician.

Are Heart Palpitations Bad

2016-10-28 06:43:17 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

See a doctor. It may be a symptom to do with the heart, or it could be something almost unrelated. I have a relative who once suffered with heart palpitations and it was due to a stress condition causing the body to produce too much adrenaline. A course of beta blockers were all that was required. By the way, that was over thirty years ago and my relative is still around!

But best to get it checked out.

Talk to your doctor to get the answer to why your having them, don't scare your self it may turn out to be nothing.

Common Causes:
Heart palpitations can be caused by:

Exercise
Anxiety, stress, fear
Fever
Caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, diet pills
Overactive thyroid
Anemia
Hyperventilation
Low levels of oxygen in your blood
Medications such as thyroid pills, asthma drugs, beta blockers for high blood pressure or heart disease, or anti-arrhythmics (medications to treat an irregular heart rhythm can sometimes cause a different irregular rhythm)
Mitral valve prolapse -- the valve that separates the left upper chamber (atrium) from the left lower chamber (ventricle) of the heart does not close properly
Heart disease

I had that due to a side affect of some diet pills that I used to take. It was scary to even try to go to sleep every night. I almost died in my sleep one night. I woke up and could not scream or move at all. I finally snapped out of it a minute later which seemed like hours.

I stopped taking those pills when I realized what I had and about a year after I stopped having heart palpitations.

Well yeah, I mean, especially if you don't know why you're having them. If you already have a diagnosed heart condition or whatnot, and you and your doctor(s) are aware of it and you're on meds, then maybe it's just a companion symptom. But it's still not a good thing! And if you (or whomever it is who's having the palpitations) haven't yet been to the doctor for it, GO asap! It could be anything from high blood pressure to a heart murmur, or any number of things. Don't mean to scare you; I just want you/whoever it is to go to the doc! :) Good luck.

I had them 6 years ago. I went to the Dr's, he did a blood pressure test which showed it to be sky high! Dangerously high.
I now take Adalat Retard 40g @ 2 a da for life. I haven't suffered anymore than the next 40 year old.
Don't worry, it can correct itself by taking things a little less serious. Trying to rush around as if there aren't enough hours in the day causes your blood pressure to rise unhealthily. Put your feet up, have a brew, let some other idiot do the running about.

Just like any engine, the heart regulates itself from time to time. If you are otherwise healthy and suffer no giddiness, neck, chest or arm pains at the same time it could just be nerves, stress, too much coffee, lack of sleep etc. Go and see your Doctor in any case for reassurance.

Well, it's not an example of your body system working perfectly, just for those few moments. I wouldn't say it's bad as such, just not quite right. Imagine your body is a car. If the window wipers were a bit juddery one day, it'd still be absolutely fine, but you'd want to get it checked out.
So get yourself checked out :o)
