This would only be a good thing, if people didn't want underground movements, no secret sects and if they
were happy with nothing.

Otherwise, this would be prohibition of the worst kind
and would cause even more conflict than currently
happens right now (in my humble opinion).

Humans have a strong need to be different, to belong
to different groups etc. Just look at football/soccer fans

If it just faded away as opposed to it being banned it would be a superb thing. Let's get one thing straight, religion is not the cause of war as most people say, it is in fact the reason people give for war or terrorism. These people are the problem (and should be removed from the gene pool by one method or another) they believe that they have no personal responsibility for their actions as these actions are in the name of some higher being. When all is said and done religion is for the weak. If it was banned however it would give these lunatics another excuse to carry on killing.

Yes it would matter. Most of the basic, but severe laws in the world have been based on religious commandments. We abide by these laws - well most of us.

But what the law does not do, is lead us to be socially tolerant people. Many religions instruct us to be kind, compassionate, generous and tolerant. I'm obviously putting to one side all the fanatics who want to bomb, burn or deliver ethnic cleansing. Whilst they receive the widest media attention, they do not represent the masses.

I'm not a religious person, but I understand and respect that religion helps to shape people and make them more socially responsible. Most people today in the UK are probably not religious people, and I see what is a lack of tolerance, compassion and forgiveness in our everyday dealings with one another.

I for one, would be concerned for the future of society if religion was banned. And we'd be foolish to think that religion wouldn't go underground. You ban something and you make it more appealing to the fanatics and potentially people who would never have thought about it in the mainstream. Underground movements tend to be more volatile, dangerous and unpredictable.

But theoretically if there was nothing, it would be harder for us to teach our children how to be good people. Religious stories are parables for us to lead our lives by - don't lie, cheat, steal, kill etc. etc. We'd have to find another way to shape future generations.

That'd be impossible. You can ban religion, but that won't stop people practicing it.Chinese Christians meet underground,so did Christians in Nero's time and people still have to hide their religions in a whole host of countries.THere is no way that any government could stop people believing, short of brainwashing. And isn't that what some atheists think religion is?

I know that today there are places that if they see you with The Holy Bible you will go in for it. People read the word of God in hiding and life is going. So it is not when religion can be banned that people will not have a solution. If such a thing happen I will not abandon God. You know very well that what is in the heart cannot be banned.

Yes it would matter. Most people have to believe that there is something else beyond this world. I believe there is but I would never push my beliefs on anyone. After saying that, I do not think it could ever happen. You can not control someones spirituality. No matter if you lock them up and throw away the key, they are still going to believe how they truly want to believe.

It personally would hurt my spirit if I ever heard anything like this.

Blessings

The problem is that civilizations are always searching for answers. That's what humans do, they need meaning for life, the universe and everything.
One needs to supply something that would replace religions to fill this gap.
Would it matter? Yeah, people would feel kinda empty and unsupported. Basically because religion is the crutch that supports that need.
How would I react? With glee. I'd be helping.

Then it would be just like communism. Cathedrals and churces were turned into museums, and some cemeteries became circuses. There will always be rebellions, and underground groups. Sure the idea sounds great, BUT, so did communism, and it would never work. Maybe if we could brainwash everybody so that they would all forget religion

You cannot ban a religion any more than you can ban recreational drugs, alcohol or prostitution. All of these sorts of things have been tried and failed. You can legislate against them, sure, but then they just go underground.

The only way to ban religion is to educate the open-minded who have been brain-washed from birth (and execute the ones who fail to see the truth).

Religion is merely an archaic form of politics. It is time to put away the things of childhood.

All religion is evil.

Party time!

No...seriously...the world would die. Not because religion does any good...but there's so many ridiculous fanatics that they would kill everyone and everything. So don't take this in the wrong way...if religion could somehow dissappear it would be incredible, but if it was simply banned there would be protests resulting in millions of people dying.
