It useto be a total no for that cause they were made from
gelaten made from pigskin or cowhide or animal ligments sometimes even from cows hoofs. Now adays the manufacturer's make a fake gelaten from glucose and vegetable oil (sometimes they use lard). You can get Marshmellows made with bean gum from a plant of course.. this costs more. Even though I am a vegetarian and I know marsh mellows aren't totally vegetarian I do eat some marshmellows occasionally! Most Pills are not vegetarian either! If I were a vegan then i would leave marshmellows alone and have to find an alternative to pills.. some herbs would probably follow that... there's are herb call marshmallow root that can be use to make something like marshmellows.. but you'd have marshmallows

The book Better than Store Bought contains the following recipe for making your own marshmallows:

1/4 cup cornstarch
1/3 cup confectioners sugar
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1/3 cup water
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

But... I found a vegetarian Marshmallow recipe online: http://www.completerecipes.com/118378.htm.

Hope that helps.

Marshmellows contain gelatin. Gelatin is made from remnits of boils hooves and bones. I avoid it, some don't though. I guess it's a matter of how extreme veggie you are. Surf the net for "vegan marshmellows" which substitute the gelatin with ingrediants like agar-agar or pectin(which are animal free of course).

Absolutly not... They are hot sugar and geletin (from animal hooves) that is whipped up then set...
There might be some brands that are these days but the packet will explicitly say. If it doesn't say then dont trust it

Most of them aren't vege, as there is geletine in them which derives from animals bones(or should I say the boiling of bones).
I have searched for a vege marshmallow, as i miss toasting them over n open fire!

No, they aren't.

They contain ground up fish bones as that is what gelatin is made from.

The same with any of the candies you buy at the store that are chewy

marshmallows are made of sugar, corn starch, gelatin, gum arabic, and egg whites.

it depends if you consider eating eggs to be taboo

oh, and don't listen to all these ignorant people who say they are just made of sugar.

They have gelatin in them so no, as this is usually pork based. Kosher gelatin is vegetarian. Maybe you can find kosher marshmallows.
