Can You Catch Pleurisy

2016-12-17 04:13:42 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Pleurisy is a bacterial infection as opposed to a viral infection. The common cold is a virus and spread easily from person to person as it is carried in moisture (sneeze or cough). The pleurisy bacteria is not carried as readily in the breath or in mucus and so the chance of it spreading is very low. However I would not say it is NOT contagious completely as bacteria can be passed from person to person but it's much less prevalent.

You probably wont catch it if you live with someone who has it!

Pleurisy itself is not "catching", but the upper respiratory infection that resulted in the pleurisy could be.

No, it's not, but it's painful, I had the wonderful chance to have it. For me it seems to be an ongoing thing. Pleurisy is also misdiagnosed quite frequently. Stay away from smoking, and allergens you know bother you. That's helped me some.

No. Pleurisy is inflammation of the mucosa lining outside the lungs that lubricates the lungs so when you breathe there is no friction to cause pain. When the lining is inflamed then it hurts to breathe. The inflammation is usually due to an infection, but it isn't contagious.
