I know nothing about them. So recommendations on good brandnames would be helpful too. Also, is it okay to buy one used on Ebay?

50 bucks er so...no more...any of em are good...just get one with the wide circular opening in it...big enough to put an apple etc in w/ out cutting it...gl..

Waring makes one for about $70 that's a good deal! It sells under different names depending on what store you're at (stores get off to having "exclusive" models that way) but is always the same no matter the model name. It's not as good as the others that go for more money does almost as well as the $200 ones (I know since I wasted money on them).

I'm always leery of buying used food prep items. Here's a scary story for you. Old buddy of mine had a Waterpik that was used to blast algae slime out of aquarium filter motors. When he bought a new cordless one he sold the old one through Ebay!
