I got a diabetes test done earler in the week and had the FPG test and the OGTT Test done. In the FPG test I got a reading of 116, and then after I drank that liquid which is the OGTT test I got a reading of 86. What does this mean? I know that since I am between 100-126 for the FPG test that says I am pre-diabetic, but for the OGTT test I am supposed to be between 140-199 to be considered a pre-diabetic. I am worried so can someone please help me. THANKS!!

$ There is a rule of thumb for a test for diabetes; have the same clinic do another test; then go to another clinic. There is no use to rush towards believing you are about to have an amputation. Also, is you have diabetes, get your own test kit.

There are two tests we use to determine if you may have diabetes. One is a fasting glucose (which I guess is what the FPG test is) - anything below 125 is normal, though below 100 is probably a bit better (I wouldn't go crazy over one measurement though, even if it were positive it would have to be repeatable to mean anything at all). This test measures how high your glucose levels are after not eating for at least 8 hours.
The other test is the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, in which you take a measured amount of sugar (the one you drink that liquid for) then they check your serum glucose level 2 hours after. This measures how well your body deals with a glucose bolus, basically estimating what happens when you eat. Sounds like your blood sugar level is normal for that.
To sum up, wtith those results, I wouldn't worry, you're not diabetic. You may wish to repeat them at a later date to see if anything changes, but I wouldn't go breaking out the insulin syringes just yet.

Obviously the instrument & / or the test is defective.
Such results are absurd, though 116 is cool.
You must repeat the test @ some other ,Path lab, where the test is done by an MD ( path) & NOT by a mere Microbiologist
