My daughter is always sick and we can never get an answer to why or even find a doctor that asks why. They just treat her for what she currently has and that's the end of it. They have never thought what is causing this otherwise healthy five year old to have strep, pneumonia, broncitious, and ear infections. Are there questions I should be asking that I'm not? Some people tell me she will outgrow it and eventually she will be fine, but I can't take the sleepless nights and worring anymore.

Hve you discussed allergies and/or asthma? Children do pick up everything, it seems, but that many cases should be concerning to a physician.

My younger son went through much of what you are going through with your daughter. He was allergy tested at 5. It was a very unpleasent experience for him, but what we finally found out was treated and we are able to control his symptoms as needed. He's 17 now, and still treats for allergies and asthma, but it's not nearly as bad as it was when he was younger.

Good luck and keep at it.

Take your doctor to a pulmonologist rather than just the family doctor and that should help determine some of the root causes. Given the frequency of the pneumonia, I would recommend having her tested for Cystic Fibrosis. There are various other symptoms of CF that are usually displayed but, may not be in all cases depending upon the severity of the disease at this stage. You can refer to cff.org for more information. Although CF is much more well known now than a few decades ago it is still not 100% recognized by all pediatricians - I've known people that were adults before they were ever diagnosed.

Good luck and best wishes.

As a toddler, my daughter was diagnosed with bronchitis repeatedly. She was on antibiotics for probably 6 months straight, when my mom suggested that she might be having a reaction to the milk she was drinking (cow's milk, by that time).

Sure enough, I stopped giving her milk, and the nasal mucus and cough went away almost immediately. The doctors never looked back at her charts to even think about something other than the easy answer.

I guess my point in sharing that story is that doctors are often wrong.

I would absolutely NOT accept "she'll grow out of it"...Especially if it's something as potentially life threatening as pneumonia!!!

I encourage you to get copies of all of her health records, and take them to another doctor who would be willing to look into other things. It could be something as simple as an allergy, or something very serious.

How about going natural? Weve had tons of health problems with our daughter and eventually went to see a naturopath that helped us out a lot! We have no drug coverage anyway so treating it naturally not only worked much better than conventional medicine it was way cheaper... Get her off of all dairy products and wheat..they are mucus producing....get the gluten out of her system.... dairy is a killer with kids who get sick..get rid of it. What about mold in your home? We had to move because we thought that was a possible problem. Get a company in to check the air quality in your home..especially in your childs room. Consider buying an air purifier... Treat the ear infections naturally...NOT with antibiotics...they are very, very dangerous and wipe your immune system out..do not use them... if you have then give your child lots of accidophulous (not sure i have spelt that correctly)...health food shop..in the freezer NOT on the shelf.... give her lots of good yoghurt..and build her immune system back up. Anything new in your home? Plant....paint..wallpaper etc??? Think back as to when the health issues started..and see if there is a trigger? IM me if you need to chat more....

Immunocompromised maybe? Especially if the child is getting each illness serially, one after the other, the body has hardly recovered from one illness before another is starting, so they are immune compromised because of that, blood tests can tell, I believe.

Other posters raised some good question...was she premature...is there black mold in your home? Do you or your husband smoke? These are all important factors that affect respiratory health.
