Democrats managed to stop IDs in Georgia and Missouri but not in Arizona so far. Democrats are not done yet though as now they still have the lawsuits contending that the ID law will disenfranchise numerous voters, particularly the elderly and minorities.
The law was meant to make sure illegal immigrants weren't casting ballots as had been alleged in several prior elections. Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard said,"States have a compelling interest in curbing fraud and protecting the integrity of elections."

What do you think? Is it racist to ask for ID when voting?

laura55ll... If you can`t remember to bring your Id when you go vote then that is pathetic. Do you often drive to the polls without your licence?
Tribal id "is" a form of acceptable id.
Nursing homes are prowled by Democrat voting registrars routinely for absentee voters. I know because I had to beat them away from My Uncles death bed with a stick even though he had already voted absentee. He Mysteriously still registered and voted absentee in the next election after he died. In fact he even changed his party affiliation after death to a democrat.

The other two cases that are still being decided and have to do with the Voting Rights Act, are BROUGHT BY the DEMOCRATS. Educate yourself.

Oh yes I forgot College students can vote absentee at their former home state.
People who just got married still have a drivers licence and if they change it they are at the same place to change their voting name when they do it.

It's liberal cr*p like this that should have everyone voting them out of office. It's not unconstitutional, nor racist, nor discriminatory to demand to see a government issued ID before you vote. Whoever says it is, is just plain stupid.

You have to show government id to get on a plane, to cash a check, to get a loan, when you get pulled over while driving. The ID can be a drivers license, or a state issued ID card that ANYONE can get with a birth certificate.

The liberals don't want ID's to be checked because they have illegal aliens voting for them. They also have felons that don't have the right to vote doing just that. It's voting fraud to an extreme.

And the first answer-giver... WTF? We SHOULD be preventing illegal aliens and felons that had their rights revoked from voting.

Racist? It's about US citizens who may be disenfranchised.

Truth be told, most Arizonans should be able to adjust to the new rules. Most of us routinely carry sufficient ID to sign a check and do other business. We just have to remember to bring them when we vote, something we've never had to do before.

For others among us, however, the new provisions will create inconveniences and even hardships in exercising our right to vote. Too few people understood this last year when they opted for Proposition 200.

For example, many senior citizens allow their driver's licenses to expire. Recently married women often change their name. And divorced women often drop their married name. Nursing home residents may be registered at their family home address. The same applies to college students. In Arizona, Native Americans' tribal IDs will often list a post office box, not a street address.

"Given the imminence of the election and the inadequate time to resolve the factual disputes, our action today shall of necessity allow the election to proceed without any injunction suspending the voter identification rules," the court said.

The other two cases had to do with the Voting Rights Act not the Democrats, This Supreme Court made no decision on the disposition of the issues-just that there wasn't time before election day to decide.

I am a democrat and I dont see why this should be an issue. When I lived in California I always showed my ID to vote. (Hmmm, at least I think I did.) I can think of no conceivable reason why there would be an objection to this. Perhaps you could provide some links to the story so we could investigate further? I honestly have not heard anything about this. And no, it isn't racist, it is nothing more than common sense I would think. You have to be registered anyway.

LOL I think the states should be responsible for every birth certificate that can not be located and give those a free copy of the cert or a verification of birth cert. Bad record keeping Pre computer should be fixed and then no problem It takes months to get an ID with the patriot act. Took me 6 months. Some people have name changes ya know. But I will say this do you know where all your docs are? I ran across the envelope of mine. I now will get a Passport again because ya can not get out if the water gets hot and get back in The Patriot act makes it hard especially for old citizens whom no one can seem to find their Birth certs Get a Passport and know where your docs are!

Voting is one of the sacred privileges that we have. It makes us a part of our government.

The act of voting is so important that we should always make sure that it is the right person and that he/sh is not voting more than once.

If it takes an official document, photo, or badge than that is what we should do.

How would you like to wake up the day after election and find that 6 million illegal immigrants have elected a known racist felon to be your senator or representative or governor or president?

Do you really want to give your country away to whoever wants it?
Well, Allowing anyone to vote in your country"s election is the best way to do just that.

Using the "l" word and calling the idea fair-minded is totally illogical. Arguments have been made of widespread fraud, but not much in the way of concrete evidence.

Meanwhile, there are no such provisions required for absentee ballots, which has been cited as fraudulent in countless elections.

I won't say that it is racist, but it is a clear attempt at voter-suppression.

No it is not a racist thing to ask for ID when voting. I am forced to show my ID when I cash a check or use my credit card, I think it is acceptable in something as important as voting.

The idea that there is a sea of "disenfranchised" people without any form of ID. If you are poor in America you definitely need ID, most all government assistance requires it. If there are people walking around without it, we need to get it to them, it would not cost that much.

That of course is a smoke screen because Democrats believe they benefit from illegal voting more often than Republicans.

Hello,

I have ALWAYS shown my ID when I vote. And, I always will. Period. Even when the workers tell me they do not need to see it.

And no, it is not racist. The Dems want every Tom, Dick and Harry voting, whether legal or illegal, because they are cheaters and do not play nice. They are like the kids on the play-yard who cry when they lose at Tag or Dodge Ball. Oh, wait, the liberals took those games away too...

Hope this helps you.... :-)

No it's not racist. But the democrats are running out of excuses as to why they are losing elections. It's couldn't be their socialist agenda that is doing it, or the love of raising taxes. If they have to resort to an honest election than they won't stand a chance.

These ID's are free! the state will provide them.

No it isn't. All a person has to do is come in, give their name and sign the registration book, and they don't show any ID. There are many illegals who are registered. We need to crack down on voter fraud somehow.
