If someone has herpes on thier lip (cold sore) and chewed gum, then took the gum out of thier mouth and put it in someone elses mouth, would that person still get it even if the gum never touched the infected area?

(I know it sounds stupid. STFU.)

There is always a chance. The herpes virus is spread pretty easily.

The person can always get a test done to see if they contracted the virus or not. It's just a simple blood test.

Actually not a stupid question. At least in my book, any question about STD's is a great question. When it comes to STD's, ignorance is not bliss.

The odds are very low in favor of a transfer of virus, if the gum never touched the sore, and even lower in favor of transfer and infection. However, there's no guarantee.

Yes this is a stupid question the gum would have to sit on the sore and then go into the mouth and it will spread but try buying your own gum.....sureill

Yes. You are swapping body fluids, even if it doesn't touch the infected area you could still get it.

It depends on if it was an open sore. chances are if it wasnt open yet, very slim. If it was, yes, very possible.
