That person my friend is an idiot. Vegetarians eat everything except meat or meat products. Beans are an integral part of a healthy vegetarian diet.

That's the weirdest thing I've heard in awhile. Beans do not come from animals so they are not meat! Most vegetarians I know eat a rather lot of beans because they're a good source of (non-meat!) protein.

Beans are in the "meat and alternatives" food group. No animal products in beans though(they'd be considered an 'alternative'). Vegetarians can eat them all they want, except if they're cooked with a bunch of bacon, which I know some people do. Hope this helps!

Of course vegetarians eat beans! Beans are an important source of protein. It's meat that we want to avoid, not protein! I think your friend is either ignorant or thinks all protein is meat related. THEY ARENT THE SAME THING, PROTEIN IS NOT JUST MEAT!

Yes veggies NEED PROTEIN AND BEANS ARE A GOOD SOURCE! No wonder veggies get a bad name of people think we cant eat anything but fruit and veg! So untrue!

Thank you.

Vegetarians AND vegans do eat beans because they need a source of protein in their diet. The fact that beans and pulses are so rich in protein does not make them a meat.

Yes, since beans are a great source of protein and most vegans need to get protein from a source other than meat.

I think that beans are considered a meat becuase of the protein. I am one and eat black beans alot. They do not use any animal product and no animal is harmed in the growing of beans, so I'm all for them.

How is it considered meat? I used to grow beans in our garden when I was younger, and believe me, it is not a meat! No animals die in the production of beans!!!
