Cows have feelings too just like everybody else. I need a pet cow now. Help, is it true?

Heh, I think the legend is about horses crying before death, which I can't confirm because I've never seen a horse die in person. The fact is, cows aren't natures brightest animal. I doubt they know when they're going to be slaughtered unless there are other dead cows or cow blood around. In which case they can smell it.

I used to breed cattle for a living. I will say this, every cow/bull has it's own personality. It's hard to describe because it's not like human personality. Some are more gentle than others. Some are...greed, if that applies to a cow, while others are passive. If you walk around and hold down the branches for them to eat it's foliage, they will follow you around the field. About one in five hundred cows knows that it's you that allowed it to eat from the tree and will follow you to the next tree. The rest stand there and moo at the tree until they see you messing with the next tree. I had once a cow actually try to prevent me from leaving and use it's head to try to shove me back toward the tree I just left (that's more like one in a hundred thousand to be that smart). One thing I learned is that if you give cows apples and oranges, they'd follow you into a meat grinder, but they are smart enough to see something happen to one cow and stay clear them-self (I'm talking about giving them shots). That means you can lure one cow into a narrow passage where you can give her a shot, and if the others see you do it, they won't follow (making them slightly smarter than chickens). Just a little incite into cow mentality, if that's what you wanted to know about.

Cow Being Slaughtered

I am vegetarian. All living things feel sadness before being slaughtered. That shouldn't be your reason for becoming vegetarian, though. Think it through and search your own feelings about meat in general and how it feels to your body when you consume it. I stopped eating meat not because of my love for animals, but because I feel better not eating it. I love plants too and found it hard to slaughter them also for food, so my own veggie nature doesn't come from altruism necessarily. It developed out of the vegetarianism.

Vegetarianism lasts best, strongest and longest when we first take it up for selfish, personal reasons. If you do it out of guilt for the animals, you'll probably backslide, eat meat again and feel awful. Choose veggie for the reasons that work best for YOU.

ALL creatures cry when they're being slaughtered. There was a UCLA study where students learned that a cabbage "screamed" when a lettuce head beside it was sliced in half. Google it if you think this isn't true. It's a sad fact all creatures die for our selfish human needs. But if you want to go veggie and this is what's moved you towards it, I still have to say good for you. Everyone who feels led to should go veggie right now.

LA Moon,

Cows give you milk, not beef. Steers give you steak, and steers fed with corn give you a great steak.

They don't cry because they don't know they are being killed.

I grew up on a farm... And the answer is NO. A cow can be spooked just like any other animal. If you make quick movements around it, it might jump backwards, but that's about it. It would make those same movements when you walk up to it fast regardless of whether you were killing it or not.

Who ever told you that is a PETA idiot. Tell them to go hug some more trees.
