My friend recently got tested for STDs. She has been sleeping with the same guy for about a month now. She claims that since she is clean, her boyfriend must be clean too. Her boyfriend has slept with 5 men and 6 women in the past. I told her that he most definately could have an STD, even though her results tested clean, and that she was either 1) lucky that she hasn't caught anything from him yet, or 2) he really is clean. He has never been tested. I would like help in finding an article to explain this to her; that just because she is clean, her boyfriend might still have something. I have searched around for about 45 minutes and cannot find anything that would address this myth.

With all the information available, you shouldn't have to confirm what she should already know. Ask any health professional and they will tell you just because someone shows no symptoms doesn't mean they don't have something. The fact that he's never been tested and has had 11 partners before her states he has something to hide or is so ignorant and clueless and doesn't care about himself or anyone he could possible come in contact with. She needs to use condoms everytime regardless of "clean" test results. Even that won't guarantee her anything but, it makes it less likely for her to catch anything. He probably has something and doesn't even know it or knows it and doesn't care. No test, no nookie.

What is your friend doing with this loser? Try to convince her to dump him before she does get something. She's sleeping with a time bomb. Any guy who has slept with 5 men and 6 women and has never been tested is a complete moron. He's not only endangering his health, but hers, too.

Try to get her to understand that some STDs don't show up right away. Your friend must not have a very good opinion of herself to take chances like this. Good luck.

They may not have come up yet. With HIV, it takes around 6 months for the virus to be present in the blood test.

NEVER sleep with someone who has never been tested and doesn't want to be.
