Miso soup is actually Japanese.

Miso soup is simply a mix or Dashi and Miso, usually some fresh tofu in there as well.

Of course, I'm sure that doesn't answer your question at all. So...

The most common form of dashi is a simple broth or stock made by heating kombu (edible kelp) and katsuobushi (flakes of dried skipjack tuna, often referred to as bonito flakes outside Japan) in water and then straining the resultant liquid.

Miso is a thick paste, made by fermenting soybeans with sea salt and kōji, which is the product of fermenting rice, barley or soybeans with a mold culture,

Its really very simple if you have access to asian ingredients.
You basically just mix the miso into the dashi to taste, and then add whatever else you want.
