Cheerios ain't gonna cut it with a lipid profile like that, there is a a lot more you need to know and ask, first if you have had an Angiogram than you can say you have no blocked arteries and that is the only way. secondly you need to know what your ratio is if you have a LDL of 75 than it is not as serious as it sounds, but if you have a LDL of 25 than you are a great risk, with cholesterol that high a 10 point drop with Cheerios is not much help, some people believe everything they see on TV, statins would be your best way to lower it fast you can then experiment with diet, but until you ask more questions to your Doctor you are playing with fire. Been there done that

With a cholesterol that high, you need to be working out daily, and eat a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruit and lean meats. Limit your refined carbohydrates (think anything processed and high is sugar), no alchohol, and plenty of fiber. If you cannot lower your numbers after three months, you need to be on a lipid lowering medicine. More importantly, what is your HDL and LDL? Your HDL should be greater than 40 if you are male, and greater than 50 if female. Your LDL should be less than 100. Also if you smoke, quit. It lowers your good cholesterol HDL, and puts you at high risk for cardiovascular damage!

Most of your cholesterol is manufactured by your own liver. If taking a medication to lower your cholesterol is out of the question, you could cut out most meat, including all red meat, and eat oatmeal every day. After doing this for a month, have your cholesterol levels checked again. You also need to keep an eye on your triglycerides.

eat oatmeal every morning for three weeks and it should go down. Cheerios also is a good source to reduce cholesterol. Good luck!

At that level, start medication immediately. Lipitor, Crestor or whatever. Diet will not do it.
