I am making a baked potato bar for my family and friends. I need some ideas for toppings. Any way to make this into a main course? Thank you in advance.

hmmm - so many choices! bacon (bits or real), cheese (shredded and sauce), broccoli bits, sour cream, butter, salsa, pico de gallo, lemon butter, onions, chives, chili you can also do twice baked poatoes with stuff in them, and serve them as a main course to do this: bake the potatoes until done scoop out the potato part, and leave the skin whole (think potato boats) mash the potatoes with a little bit of butter and milk, then add anything you want (except sour cream or salsa) put this concoction back into the potato boats (if you want to be fancy, use a pastry bag with a really big tip, or you can use a small ice cream scoop) - top with shredded cheese, if you want bake the potatoes again for about 15 minutes serve with sour cream or salsa, if appropriate

I have a unique idea for you. I saw this on the Food network.Instead of a bake potato bar, do a mashed potato bar. Bake the spuds and then scoop out the pulp into martini glasses (or other depending on what you have on hand. People above me listed everyone kind of topping there is- so no need to repeat them. Set them around the table or buffet and let people mix up their favorite variations.
Good luck!

Of course you have to typical toppings such as butter, sour cream, bacon bits, and chives. I'd also offer a variety of shredded cheeses and / or cheese sauce, chili, chunk chicken and / or tuna, salsa, crab or lobster salad, fresh herbs (chopped), jalapenos, chopped broccoli, cauliflower and / or shredded carrots, small shrimp, ground beef or turkey crumbles, marinara and Alfredo sauces, diced ham, sliced mushrooms, diced pepperoni.....the list is endless. Whatever you have on hand or know your family especially likes in general would be great on a baked potato. What a fun and yummy idea for a party.

brocolli, sour cream, bacon bits, shredded cheese, chili, chives, smart balance (after putting on the smart balance, add garlic and/or onion powder), blue cheese dressing (this is real good on a baked potato), parsley, mushrooms. All of these toppings are great on baked potatoes. Enjoy!!
