For the freshest fish just go to the Fulton Fish Market; Sushi kits can be bought at any decent grocery store....

Right accross the river in Edgewater/Weehawken New Jersey on River Road there is an amazing full sized Japanese supermarket called Mitsuwa. The place has everything and more. The selection is incredible and the quality is great. Its clean store and its massive. The cold Sake selection by the bottle is priced great. They have an amazing produce section as well. I have been shoppin there for many years and always enjoy the trip.
BTW-you can take the 5 min ferry from 44th street pier right accross the river.
