my husband seems to have lost a lot of weight over the years, his legs and arms are getting more skinny. i'm really scared. his doctor is not helpful. thanks everyone.

If you have diabetic neuropathy, it's because you have uncontrolled diabetes. Depening on how uncontrolled would determines how bad it is.

My mother in law has a severe form of diabetic neuropathy and cannot stand, hold things, she jerks and twitches and generally just lays there because she can't even feed herself. She can hold a cup with a lid on it to drink from, but everything else has to be done for her because she can no longer contrl her body. She has been diabetic for a long time and misused the insulin and did not follow her diet so now there is no controlling her sugar or body.

Diabetic neuropathy refers to the damage of nerve tissues in the extremeties, the hands and feet. It can vary from mild tingling, to severe pain to total numbness. Diabetics that have poorly controlled sugar levels in their blood can display erratic behaviors such as unreasoning anger, severe sadness, or mania. But neuropathy refers to their ability to have physical sensation, and not to their state of mind.
