I think the US government has put a lot of emphasis on ABC (Abstain, Be faithful, and use Condoms) because Bush can only remember so many letters of the alphabet at one time.

Jokes aside, I think you're right- more work needs to be done changing social norms. Women need to be able to insist that male partners use condoms, men and women need to use condoms with long-term partners, unless both are willing to be monogamous, men and women both need to understand the potential consequences of casual unprotected sex, and needle exchange programs need government funding.

I'm going to add on to what the lady above me talked about: Parents need to take more time to explain to their kids about all the consequences of sex, instead of hoping they'll learn all about it in school. And though it won't likely happen, kids need to take what adults say about this stuff seriously. Too many people have the "It Will Never Happen To Me" syndrome. Not just about HIV/AIDS, but ALL STD's, and pregnancy too. It makes me so mad to see so many questions on here about teenage pregnancy and people contracting an STD from someone they had random sex with. Doesn't anyone ever just take time to learn things any more? If you have enough time to sit around asking questions on here, you've obviously got time to do your own research, instead of asking questions of people who mostly know absolutely nothing about the subject.
