It is almost certainly the diabetes that is the reason behind your Dad's sight problems, but the immediate cause could be a number of things, some more serious than others.
If the cause is cataracts, then providing there is no retinal damage his sight could be almost completely restored. If it is a retinal problem it will be more serious.
He should be going to a diabetic clinic, and his health should be carefully monitored, and this includes careful monitoring of his vision. This is the age at which diabetic complications start to appear.
Get him to see the doctor and go to the next diabetic clinic.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Hello my parents both have diabetes, they have twice yearly eye exams to watch for problems. I do not know if the problem he is having is from the illness only discussion with a doctor or health care professional will give you the information you need. My grandmother lost her sight when she was in her thirties do to untreated diabetes. (glaucoma) If his blood sugar is under control vision problems do not always manifest. He sounds like he has the juvenile type and that is different than adult onset types and may be more difficult to regulate. Make sure he tests his blood regularly ,watch what he eats and he can have a good life. Mary Tyler Moore also has juvenile type as well and is doing wonderfully her late sixties early seventies. It is hard when our parents or loved ones are ill . Your dad is a fortunate man to have you , take care ~A~
PS, I will see what I can find about this and will post anything I find asap
Complications of Diabetes If juvenile diabetes is left unmanaged, damage can occur to:
Eyes - leading to diabetic retinopathy and possible blindness

Don't just guess that the problem is only due to diabetes. Poor vision could be due to other conditions like cataract, etc. also. Please go to a good eye surgeon and re-check his/her assessment with a second opinion. Only then reach a conclusion.
Be sure there is treatment even for the problem which comes due to diabetes.
Best of luck!!!!

Hi Ana,
All you can do is try the following recommendations. There is a supplement called "pycnogenol" that might help a little. Keeping his weight and blood sugar down with healthy diet and exercise will help also....
For type I and type II diabetics (and those who are overweight and could potentially become diabetic). Copy and bookmark the webpages I‘ve listed below… they are invaluable for those with diabetes and/or weight problems...
I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It's called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be 'effectively' cured. Read more about it here:
http://www.diabetesimprovement.com/
The book explains what's going on in our system and what to do about it. It's really easy and inexpensive. It's basically diet, supplements, and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorption? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA:
