For the patient the operation is over in the blink of an eye !! True ! I have had 2 triple by pass ops and the anaesthetist said I will just give you a little injection and you will go to sleep fairly quickly ! I felt the slight prick of the needle and then i opened my eyes ! The operation was over and it was the end of the day , I looked down at myself and saw the red line down my chest and had various tubes etc sprouting from various parts of my body . No pain though as pain management is excellent these days.. To answer your question --If you are waiting for some one to come out of theatre --several hours !! for the patient I would estimate less than 1 second !!!

depends on what type of heart surgery they are doing. A single, double, triple, quadrupal bypass, stents being put in, adding a diffibulator pacemaker, I don't know what type of heart surgery you are talkin about so I dont' lnow. 2-8 hrs or so and more if problems occur durin the operation.
