There are three phases of HIV infection. (1) early phase which inlcudes the incubation period followed by about a month or so of flu like illness (2) chronic phase which lasts about 7-10 years during which patients remain relatively well, but the CD4 count drops by about 10 per year then (3) AIDS or terminal phase which is characterised by opportunistic infection and or development of certain malignant tumours such as Kaposi's sarcoma, lymphomas and cervical/uterine cancer. CD4 count is less than 200. To date, there is no cure.

There's no such thing as "HIV flu". I can only suppose you're referring to the "flu-like symptoms" that can occur about 2-4 weeks after an initial (acute) HIV infection. This should not be called "flu-like" but "viral-like", since the symptoms for many viral infections are similar or the same. "and i got a traumatic brain injury but it went away" -- ??????????? I work with TBI patients. You don't know what you're talking about. "all i want ot know if how long does the first hiv flu last for" -- Again, there's no such thing as HIV flu. The symptoms that appear during an acute HIV infection last about 2 weeks, sometimes longer.

HIV is incurable. It's duration depends completely on the person who has it and how well they take care of themselves. Look at Magic Johnson. You have always got to be very cautious and don't run your body down. Your immune system is very delicate and you must put a lot of room between you and folks with respiratory flu, infectious pneumonia and the such. You can extend your life for quite a long period of time, maybe 20+ years as long as you take very good care of yourself, eat right and don't mess with drugs. It does eventually turn into AIDS and when that happens, it doesn't take long for you to die.

I take it you mean in the environment and not the infection. I am not sure anyone really knows.
Remember many years ago when hospital waste from garbage barges was washing up on NJ beaches? I understand that some of that stuff tested positive for HIV - after in the trash, then in the water. for weeks.
Also, DNA testing is being done onremains thousands of years old. Since virus' change genetic material, it probably survives as long as DNA does.
To sum up. I DON"T KNOW, but it's been fun noogling around

Human immunodeficiency virus or HIV is a retrovirus that causes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a condition in which the immune system begins to fail, leading to life-threatening opportunistic infections. HIV infection in humans is now pandemic.
Eventually, most HIV-infected individuals develop AIDS and die; however about one in ten remain healthy for many years, with no noticeable symptoms.
There are several websites with the information you are looking for; however I think the "CDC" has the most informed info, as they are the center for disease control and would keep updated on all diseases.

HIV is known to last all your life. Once you get the disease, it is dormant. After the disease starts moving around, you start loseing all your white blood cells. You die because all your white blood cells are gone and your body can't defend itself. So the answer is that HIV lasts from when you get it until you die.
