Is this something to freak out about? I looked it up and as to my understanding it goes away. But there are different types of HPV. She is getting her second shot in December. She thinks her ex gave it to her. This is really important to me. I have been telling her to not worry about it. Any advice. Also she is still head over heals over her ex and is willing to do any thing to get him back. I dont want him to manipulate her knowing that she is in love with him. He treated her very nice in the beginning and was very romantic with her and even offered to marry her. They started to having problems he then started to sleep around and now he is just hurting her feelings telling her he doesnt deserve her but all he wants is sex. I never thought she would end up like this..I thought she was stronger then that. They been dating for like 15 months give or take. Just so you know we are all in our early 20's average 23 years of age. I am getting not to like this guy but what can I say. help

The human papilloma virus (HPV) is a collective name for a group of wart viruses. Some types of HPV are associated with the development of cervical cancer. HPV is so common that most women don’t know they have the virus until they get the results of their Pap tests.

Around eight out of 10 women will have HPV at some stage, and the virus will subside by itself in the majority of cases. For a smaller percentage of infected women, having HPV means an increased risk of cervical cancer. Women with HPV are monitored with more frequent Pap tests, usually every six months, until two normal results are returned.

A cervical cancer vaccine is now available for young women aged 9–26 years. Women who have had the cervical cancer vaccine should still have regular two yearly Pap tests, as the vaccine does not protect against all cancer-causing HPV types or those to which you may have already been exposed when vaccinated.

HPV as you know is a sexually transmitted disease. Certain strains of HPV are known to cause cervical cancer.Suggest your friend to get Pap smears done every year for the next 3 years.

Regarding your friends issue, I think all of you are adults. So she can make the decision for herself. As a friend just try to warn her. If she goes back with that guy it is her decision. Remember to be there for her when she gets hurt and dont say " I told you so " when she complains about her BF

sometimes HPV goes away but sometimes it does not. the shot is not 100% effective and as long as she still sleeps with him she has a greater risk of developing cervical cancer. it is very serious. she should use protection from here on in. i have done a lot of research on the subject. my best friend died from HPV
