I don't know how on earth r u suspecting thrush. Thrush is oropharyngeal candidiasis which is evident as white patches in ur mouth and throat. thrush does not occur in the genitalia.

Herpes genitalis is a form of herpes simplex virus which could manifest as an itching and sore papule in the genital region of either sex. It is sexually transmitted and the interesting thing is that most people are not aware of the infection. So if ur gf says she did not have herpes that does not neccessarily rule out genital herpes.

Did your doctor run a culture? Generally before a definite diagnosis can be made a culture has to be run to verify any possible diagnosis.
Just because your girlfriend was "checked" before you two got together does not mean that she does not have herpes. Herpes can go dormant for a period, so if she had her visit when no sores were present there would be no way for the doctor to know.
If it is in fact a yeast infection(thrush occurs in the mouth) then you should avoid oral sex until her thrush clears up, and use a condom to avoid passing the yeast infection to your girl, or you will end up with an endless cycle of the two of you reinfecting each other. The tell tale sign of yeast infection is white pustules.(It will look like little white pimples almost). Either way you will require medication, so if you doctor didn't already culture the area, then request one.

try canestan cream and see if that clears it first - does sound like thrush. herpes is itchy with bumps which eventually turns into small blisters - very contagious at this stage. blisters burst into open sores which dry up - if it is this use zovirax cream. herpes is re-occurring and affects the nervous system which results in it coming out when you are run down although thrush can also be caused by stress, or too much of the good stuff etc. Herpes can lie dormant and also be passed onto genitals by oral when someone has a mouth sore.

They are NOT related.
Herpes is a simplex virus whereas thrush is a yeast infection.

You both need to see the Dr & condoms should be used to stop constant reinfection.

if you use a condom every time, then i have no idea what it is. but if you have had close contact without a condom and your g/f has had thrush the chances are you have it aswell. your penis will have small while dots on it and will be itchy, if its red and sore, then it sounds more sinister, take your g//f to the local gu clinic and both of you get checked out at same time and recieve results together, only way to trust that someone is clear.
