The past couple of years I was in charge of my church's Halloween parties. It had to be kid appropriate so we had a fun haunted house (don't make it to scary, even the bravest little kid gets scared), costume contests (where everyone got a prize, buy several of those mix and match bags of small toys at the store and come up with catagories for everbody so nobody gets left out), you can buy mini pumpkins and let the kids decorate with paint or permanent markers. As for food we usually used some sort of punch for the drinks and finger foods like cupcakes and sugar cookies.

As a child I always like bobbing for apples or other various things

We used to always order pizza when we had parties and a fun thing to do was to hide outside and scare the pizza man. That was the best.

We used to have dance offs adn use the Twister but in the 80's it was a cool toy. With boys I have a feeling that hooking up a TV inthe living room is the best, All they want to do is play those games anyways.

play a guess what it is game, get a big bowl or deep pot. take a black cloth and cut a hole big enough to put their hand in without seeing in.
boil a whole head of cabbage let cool. put it in the pot and cover with cloth. Let them guess what it is, When they feel it tell them it's a brain.
make jello and put grapes in it, tell them it's eyeballs.
You can make runny pudding and put like gummy bears & worms in it, that can be puke.Things like that, you can come up with all kinds of gross stuff. The kids will love it

Spooky sound effects, and a home made haunted house adventure, with skeletons in closets, and things that fall from the ceiling. Bone buiscuits, and blood punch as well. You might be able to find spooky recipies on the internet.

Don't make it scary, w/ ghosts, monsters, scary jackolanterens, and mummies. Just make it dress-up fun.

Let kids paint small pumpkins w/ tempera paint for an activity. Do this first, so they'll dry before it's time for them to go home.

"Easter Egg Hunt" w/ mimi-pumpkins, or wrapped candy.
