I agree with you why on earth does anyone allow some one to speak to them like this..he may be a famous chef but that doesn't give him the right to show such contempt towards people..I am surprised the TV authorities allow it...I`m afraid they couldn't pay me enough to allow this animal of a man to talk to me like that...and yes I think reality TV is now scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

Yep Gordon Ramsey is one of the best restaurateurs in the world, and you are right a chef assistant chef in a rated 4/5 star restaurant is paid an incredible amount of money, between 80 and 125 thousand dollars a year U.S and in some cases even more. Ive watched the seasons of hells kitchen, when he actually resorts to screaming it generally truly deserved.

It's definetely dramatized for entertainment. But, chefs can be a bit heated, like the woman above me said... It's a VERY high stress job. The whole operation and every aspect is on his/her shoulders. Also, after a while working in a kitchen... you get burned out and the fuse gets shorter and shorter. It really depends on the individuals overall personality. I have worked with chefs all throughout the spectrum, some of em are cool to the touch, some of them are very hostile and will throw ****. No lie!!! You just gotta roll with the punches, sometimes even if they are yelling at you all night for stupid reasons... they will still smoke a bone with you after cleanup is through. And yeah, they make the ill stacks!!!

If I were getting yelled at like that, I'd be yelling right back at him with absolutely every cuss word known to man. The air would turn blue. If we had to respect a chef, then I'd expect some respect in return. I worked for a very nice, patient chef once. Nothing like Gordon Ramsey.

yes it is stupid and they must pay them big time to accept all the abuse they receive...
a hundred years ago i got a part time job at a 7-11 store. the manager was a big bully and picked on me alot of time.. one day he was yelling and screaming at me and said "if you were a man i would slap the zzzz out of you.........i got in his face and told him don't let that stop you, go for it and i will knock you back into last week... he backed up and told me i was only testing you. i wanted to make sure that if a customer started yelling at you that you could deal with it" i looked at him and said nice cover up and i do not buy it. you're a bully and i wont take it.] so long story short, i would put this chef head in the batter if he screamed at me and i am old now but still would do it ] lol

I would LOVE it, just for the chance to be around and learn from him would be worth the "abuse" he puts out.
My husband is a retired chef, so I know how tempramental they can be in the kitchen!!
Plus, I would have yelled at some of the insanity that he dealt with on the show..and it is that, just a show, have to do something to keep the ratings...in real life, I think if he acted that way, his staff would have set him up so bad that his place would be ruined!

He is a Chef, and has earned respect for that title, however, he wouldn't be respected by me at all if he got in my face and screamed at me like he is allowed to get away with doing...He is a Bully in the kitchen, and there is no need for that....He thinks if he yells and screams and calls people insulting names makes him an all high and mighty man, and all it makes him look like is an a$$hole!!!!

my other half is a chef, and he says that in the kitchen the head chef is God, they have to respect and obey his wishes, for someone as talented as Gordon Ramsey they should view it as a privilege to get to work with him or for him. Personally I think it is wrong, but he says that you have to work as a chef to understand why people let him shout like that.

He is going over the top, but unfortunately this is sometimes how it is in a commercial kitchen. It's a very high stress job. You can't even begin to imagine unless you've done it.
