My family loves meat and will not understand, but i hear veggie is healthy. Also, isn't vegan cutting out milk? I don't know really, so please tell me. I hear switching to soy milk is good for you, but I love milk. Is soy milk good? I have never met a veggie that I didn't fall in love with eventually, and it will be no problem for me. Please explain, because what do I eat instead of dairy?

It's really something you need to decide for yourself. Do the research, but more importantly go with your heart and what's right for you.

If you are going to try it, I suggest you start out as a vegetarian (no meat, fish, poultry), and do that for at least 5 years to make sure you can handle getting all your vitamins, protein, and iron.

Then you can work your way into going vegan by cutting out dairy (milk, cheese, eggs, etc.) You can do this if you substitute with soy products.

Give it a try, but keep a close eye on your health, and research a lot to make sure you are getting enough vitamins (iron is the hardest to get as a vegan).

Good luck!

vegan is eating no animal products, including dairy and eggs as well as meat. To be a vegetarian and especially a vegan, you can't go from eating meat and potatoes to just the potatoes. You need to explore new recipes and foods. a good place to start is ethnic cooking, because many cultures are not as animal product based in their diet as we are. Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and even Mexican cuisines have many more vegetarian or vegan meals than Americans do. Another thing to do is check out health food stores and health food cookbooks. If you don't love food and cooking, this can all be too much like work. I am sure opinions differ, but my own opinion is if you eat a balanced diet, veggie is not necessarily healthier. I was a vegetarian for 18 years and have been healthier since I started to eat meat again. Contrary to what you might expect, I was obese as a vegetarian and lost the extra weight when I started eating meat again. I needed a more protein-based diet, and eating meat killed a lot of the food cravings I was having.

probably best if you did some research... going vegan in my opinion is difficult and expensive, as most markets/restaurants/etc don't cater to vegetarians or vegans. I'm neither, yet I love soy milk. It's definitely different than milk, but it's still pretty good. I feel finding a healthy balance is the best way to live (and eat a lot of Taro).

You know I never liked eating meat, it just was never appealing to me to eat it. So I stopped one day and my mom didn't really like that I had did that but she eventually saw how serious I was and was actually really accomodating. She would make me a seperate "meal" almost that was veggie. It is so much healthier for you! Soy milk is good and very beneficial but I still like skim milk too. Just be careful with getting enough protein in your diet. Beans, peanuts will help! Good luck and enjoy :)

Its a good choice for U if its from U.....For example like religion we feel we need to label things in society....I'm a christian, I'm a Jew ...etc.....I'm a Vegetarian.....Your body has an uncanny way of telling you what it needs if you just listen to it.......If UR going to be a Vegan or Vegetarian cause its Hip or b/c it seems like a good path b/c U can relate to those types of people or U like the label its the wrong reason and therefore the wrong path for U at this time.......If your body is not craving meat of animal based proteins ....in other words the smell of a burger makes U sick...then it may be time to re-evaluate what U eat and this path may be for U....Do yourself a favor and educate yourself in nutrition 101....there are tons of books available that explain the pros and cons of certain extreme diets like these.....many people follow them for the wrong reasons....remember there are no rules.....I know people who don't touch red meat or animal proteins ever but like eggs and an occasional glass of milk and cookies......I myself don't really eat animal proteins but will have a nice steak maybe once a month....and love my cheese.....what the hell do U call me besides weird? Remember listen to your body and don't be so worried about following a path someone U don't know has laid out.....it will be your own

The choice should be yours. Just remember if you become a vegatarian, you should ensure you are getting a balanced diet. Protein is important for vegetarians because there's no easy way to get it.

There are other options as well, like cutting out red meat or cutting out meat altogether but eating fish and seafood.

It is probably wise to talk to your doctor and weigh your options.

Remember, you can try it. You'll learn very quickly if vegetarianism is for you.

If you are a meat eater, you won't do well as a vegetarian.

To see how animals are really slaughtered, visit a slaughterhouse. They are killed in a very humane manner.

I tried the vegan lifestyle for a year. I was in college and too poor to buy meat. It sucked. I was hungry all the time due to the lack of protein, despite the fact that I ate a lot of beans and spelt.

Try starting slowly. Eat lots of yogurts with nuts and or cereal. They are very good! Eat proper amino acids(mixing beans and corns). Soy milk is good yes and it lasts a long time in the fridge.

Good luck to you and congratulations on choosing to be healthy.

Vegans have to be very careful to not become anemic. They must also include supplements to put vital nutrients into their systems that they aren't going to get from tofu. The vegan diet doesn't have a lot of variety. I would try vegetarian, just make sure to include lots of beans/legumes and other protein foods.
