I cannot walk in the morning or night without crutches and a cane by day. The left foot hurts, burns and feels too painful when pressure is applied and is slightly swollen around the ankle. The left calf muscle aches as well. All I have had is an EMG. neg for neuropathy which I feel questionable about it's ruling. What tests should be taken? What could this be? Soft tissue disorder?

If you have been diagnosed as diabetic see your endocrinologist, otherwise try a neurologist. They can assess the problem. Keep seeing Dr.'s until you get a firm diagnosis.

Good luck!

One of the long term effects of being a diabetic is decreased circulation to the extremities and neuropathy. There are medications for the neuropathy -- check with your MD. I would consider seeing an endocrinologist or a new neurologist.

Go to your foot Dr. and ask about diabetic arthropathy...CHARCOT FOOT. You already have the swelling, and pain. If it is this disease, your Dr needs to immobilize and stabilize your ankle, so no further damage is done.
