Have you asked her why she is treating you this way.

From experience, meat eaters simply can't understand how anyone can survive without eating meat.

Perhaps if you explain to her your reasons for not wanting to eat meat and the health benefits, she may not become vegetarian but she may respect your views.

Good luck....

She's probably just worried about you and thinks you're going to starve. She doesn't understand the 'new' you and wants the old one back. If you can, give her some books/pamphlets that would reassure her that being a vegetarian isn't going to harm you and can actually do you some good.

I get the feeling that you're a teenager just because you talk about your mom not being there to support you, and at that age it's really critical to have your mom's support when it comes to things like this and you seem like you aren't in a position where you can buy your own food. Therefore, I recommend the book, "Vegetables rock! : a complete guide for teenage vegetarians" by Stephanie Pierson. I think somewhere in there there's a letter that you can either copy or let your mom read.

As for you, I recommend the book "Living among meat eaters : the vegetarian's survival handbook" by Carol J. Adams. She tells you how to get along with people like your mother and offers advice on how to get along with the meat-eating world.

I hope this helps and that your situation is resolved soon. If you need any more help, let me know.

I was 14 when I decided I didn't want to eat any more, I told my family and made my decision. I brought a book read on the Internet all the different foods I could eat and decided to try a few basic recipes my self. Go to a charity shop or eBay if you don't want to spend loads on one. In time if you stand by your decision show you have an interest in what you eat by trying to make some yourself, get a book, could join the vegetarian society, buy and leave around a veggie magazine so that your mum might pick it up. Buy some veggie food from marks and Spencer's or any supermarket if you can. Good luck with it and in time your mum might come around if not stand by your convictions it wont be the first time someone someone doesn't agree with you...

I'm assuming you're under age and can't buy your own food. Ask to go grocery shopping with your mom. Offer to prepare a great vegetarian meal. Show her different vegetarian items like veggie ground round (meat lovers seem to really like that) and tofu. Look on-line for recipes, spinach lasagna is one of my favorite meals to make for vegetarians and meat eaters. Getting people use to a new way of life takes a open mind, patience and understanding. Good luck.

Try asking her kindly to respect your decision and to stop shoving meat in your face (although maybe not in those words..)
As for her own meals, you can't force a person to eat what they don't want (although my parents would certainly be happy if I cooked them any kind of food), so spend your energy and money on your own meals. Although making your mum a few creative vegetarian or organic desserts may get you some attention and praise - who could turn down pumpkin pie or a fruit smoothie?

Depending on how old you are, you might want to try to get a job and buy your own. Or perhaps tell her you want some money to cook her something special because you want to "thank" her for being so nice. Then buy a vegie meal prepair it and maybe she will never know it isn't real meat????
